Sad to hear but the link indicates there might be some deception.  Some state the EFASS program was the best flight planning program ever but there were many problems with providing support and getting issues resolved.

My condolences to his family and friends.

Sad news on such a untimely death.  I used to run the earlier free version of EFASS because of its support for XPlane 10 but had stopped using it when it became payware, when value for license fees asked was not inline with my expectation.  Nevertheless there is a following of this product.
