FSL A320X - running like a dream

Recommended Posts

When it was released I bought the FSL A320 and had an awful experience with it in terms of performance in FSX.  The problem was, the advice was that in FSX you had to use DX10 for the FSL but I could not get vsync working with DX10, and as I use TrackIR, vsync is essential.

Fast forward about 9 months and although I'm a P3Dv4 and XP11 simmer these days, I decided to re-install FSX:SE and have another play about with DX10.  Things went very differently this time!  The new fast sync setting in NI changed everything.  As did using 4x Sparse Grid Supersampling.     I loaded the FSLA320 at UK2000 Manchester (where in DX9 I saw FPS of 12 on the ground), and with this DX10 / NI set up, had an average of 45 FPS !!!!   Turned up some settings to make the visuals nicer and ended on a sweet spot of 34 FPS, with it dropping no lower than 30.

My word, I previously felt very negatively about my FSL purchase but I now LOVE IT !!   I cannot believe how good the performance is with DX10 in FSX in this aircraft.  And with the 4xSGSS I have not one jaggie, no shimmering anywhere in the sim.    It's a dream come true!

Great aircraft. I'm patiently waiting for the P3Dv4 compatible A320 to be released.

Any comments on how it is in P3dV3 these days? Been holding off buying it. As there will be a no charge V4 when available I'm interested in V3 now. Many thanks.

Darn, and I thought the P4D version release had passed me by without knowing!

I think P3D v3/v4 use DX11 right?   Based on how well it's performing in FSX:SE with DX10, I'd bet it's a beauty in P3D (with the right AA and other settings).

I'll quite happily buy it again when the P3Dv4 version comes out.  I'm not a rich man but I know I will get years of enjoyment from it.   Sadly, I haven't gotten the value out of the FSX version but that is not FSL's fault - it's purely because I couldn't previously get set up right with DX10 and vsync.

Gonna enjoy this FSX version a lot until the P3Dv4 version is out though!

My suggestion to you is to upgrade now, while the discount is still active. Once they release for v4, it will be a full price purchase for P3D going forward.

An extra $40 is a small price to pay versus $140.

Steve, excellent advice, thank you!  I didn't know about the current discount.  Looks like you just saved me $100.

EDIT:   Just bought it!   Thanks again.
