Annoying Problem

Featured Replies

I hope somone can help me hear. If I have show tooltips checked, whenever I move the mose around my panels and a tooltip comes up my panel goes screwy. Sometimes I get the lower half of the upper panel sometimes my gauges just go crazy. This is a real problrm because sometimes I need the tooltips to identify things on panels. Thanks in advance

You probably need to update video card drivers.Allcott

Thank you.Well that figures I get a new computer with a brand new card and I need to update. Of course my old ATI 9800 with drivers I havent changed in years work just fine. Cn you or anyone recommend drivers for a nvidia 6800 ultra here is the drivers I am using now.Caption: NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800 Ultra Adapter RAM: 256MB DriverVersion: 6.14.10.7650 Thanks again

WAD3: I had a similar problem some time ago. It seemed to only happen with my add-on planes. I ran across a discussion on one of the forums ( can't remember which one ). If you have the "render to texture" line in your FS9.cfg, this may be the culprit. It was in my case, anyway. I think it can have either a 1 or a zero after the equal sign. Change it, save it, and restart FS. I think I just deleted it and everything worked (and is working) fine. As always, try at your own peril! Good luck!

Well I tried the render to texture but what it came down to was a driver change. So far so good with that. I will have to see if it stays that way. Thanks to all that helped me out.

I have the exact same problem. However it only seems to be happneing with my Aerosoft Beaver payware aircraft. Other payware aircraft are fine. The Beaver has been working fine for several months. It just started acting up recently. I narrowed it down to either;a) I upgraded recently to version 1.53 of Beaver. May have messed something up.:( I was fiddling with the panel.cfg to see if I could get nicer gauges. Ya I know what you are thinking... I put the panel.cfg back the way it was originally but that didn't fix the problem. Maybe I have to delete the fs9.cfg and re-create.Hmmm...

What video card do you have and what drivers did you change to? I have the exact same problem with my Geforce 6600GT *if* I attempt to turn on any level of anti-aliasing or anisotropic filtering in the nVidia control panel. As long as I keep AA/AF turned off, I'm all good. If I turn them on, after a few minutes, any popup window or tooltip will cause the screen to go nuts below the level of the popup/tooltip, mainly by putting a "ghost" image of the panel from a minute or two earlier up on the screen. This problem has persisted for a year through a complete re-format and re-install of Windows, two reinstalls of FS2004, SEVEN driver changes of my nVidia drivers, a driver upgrade of the nForce2 motherboard drivers, and a BIOS update on my Asus A7N8X motherboard. I have no clue what else to try, maybe I'll try turning off "render to texture" and see what happens.Lewis "Moose" GregoryRichmond, Virginia

I've had the exact same problem described above with my GeForce 6800 Ultra since the day I got it. It's quite annoying. I also have an issue that if I leave AntiAliasing on ( at the driver level, nothing to do with FS9 ) and start any program that uses Java Runtime Environment ( such as Limewire, or even going to VATSIM website ), my second monitor goes black and my system hangs for a good 30 seconds. I then have to reset my second monitor's settings just to get it back up.It's very strange. I've just learned to turn AA off before running anything that uses Java Runtime.

To add more to it, I spend most of my flight time in the Virtual Cockpit. When I have to bring up any 2D windows, the same thing happens. Also, even the Minimize ( - icon on top ) tooltip does it when it's in windowed mode.If anyone knows how to fix this, I would be beyond gracious. ;)

If you're having NVIDIA video card problems you might want to check out this excellent guide for installing and tweaking: http://www.tweakguides.com/NVFORCE_1.html.Best regards,JimYoung

I have this problem too and have posted on the hardware forum - a range of suggestions were provided but none worked for me. I occurs in all aircraft even defaults if you undock a window move it to a second monitor then move it back or use tooltips. Unfortunately driver changes etc don't fix the problem (even after using driver clean pro etc.) and I don't have render to texture in my FS9.cfg file. Even disabling tool tips is only a partial solution as pop up windows give the same anomaly - very frustrating.Bruceb

I'm also having this problem with a 7600GT. I tried the newest beta drivers and the issue remained.

Jim, I followed that guide to the letter and now I no longer have the problem. I did learn a new way to delete non-used drivers while windows was running in normal mode ( used to go to Safe Mode, but risky since you can't tell what is supposed to be used ). Not only that, but now my system loads faster and runs a bit better. Thanks a lot for posting that. :)

Thanks, I'll definitely try that. What's odd is that I'm still having these anti-aliasing problems even after a complete reinstall of Windows, but it's possible that when the install CD for my motherboard drivers installed the original set of nForce drivers, maybe there's some junk left out there for the video card that I then installed the 84.21 Forceware video drivers over top of.Lewis "Moose" GregoryRichmond, Virginia

"Not only that, but now my system loads faster and runs a bit better."Hi Jeff,I'm glad the guide worked for you. I think it's the best around. The author is also working on a Tweak Guide for Gaming and I'm looking forward to checking that out. He also has an excellent tweaking guide for CPU's on his main page (think he's updating it now). I think a lot of fellow simmers would benefit from viewing these guides.Best regards,JimYoung
