March 12, 200620 yr I'm thinking about trying out the Carenado 210, the 206 or the 182. Can't decide which one! So I'll put it to some of you guys that probably have them all! From the standpoint of REALISIM ,which one do you like best?
March 12, 200620 yr Either the 182RG or the 206, they're both excellent. The 210 is good also but a bit older and maybe not quite as realistic. -
March 12, 200620 yr I have lots of time in both a 182Q (not an RG) as well as a 206. I think the Carenado versions are excellent. They both have great flyable VC's with great instrument refresh rates.EDIT: I have not used their 210, but I understand it is older and does not implement the more advanced development techniques the 182 & 206 are made with (whatever that means!).
March 13, 200620 yr i like the 182 rg the most. it looks very elegant in the air with its retractable gears. but with the 206 you got a big variety of applications, floats, cargo, tundra, sports and whatever. both very usable virtual cockpits, id say its the best cessna cockpits around for fs9.regards, tom.
March 13, 200620 yr im a freight dawg in my dreams, so in my virtual world, nothing beats the 206. click the back seats and suddenly youre haulin the mail. its a real workhorse. the 182 is faster and has more gizmos, but we freight dawgs dont like that stuff
March 13, 200620 yr Actually Alex the 182 is slower than the 206, cruising speed 253km/h (136kt), whereas the 206 cruising speed at 75% power at 6500ft is 143kt (265km/h)http://www.airliners.net/info/stats.main?id=147Now if you have a full cargo load, that will make a difference, LOL.I'd love to see a turbo conversion (CFG only) for the 206.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International Best, Michael KDFW
March 13, 200620 yr I don't have the 210 but of the other 2 my favourite has to be the 206 Stationair. Sweet to fly and can get into a lot of crazy places. I feel whichever you choose you won't go far wrong.
March 13, 200620 yr The '206' without a doubt and to see how wonderful it is watch Jeff Greth's great video here ................http://chicago054.server4free.de/jeff/v4_small_movie.htm or this one? http://chicago054.server4free.de/jeff/v4_movie.htm is longer and was the video that sold it for me!Dave T. .........On the Devon Riviera and active 'FlightSim User's Group' member at http://www.flightsimgrpuk.free-online.co.uk/ Dave Taylor
March 13, 200620 yr Why not both? }( I only tried my first Carenado aircraft a little before Christmas and was stunned by the quality. Now I'm the proud owner of the 182rg, 206, 206 amphibian and the Mentor. I love them all. You've got a tough choice ahead of you, but you can't lose either way.(I'd probably go with the 206, just for the versatility)BlairCYOW
March 13, 200620 yr I have all three. The 210 is a really good-looking airplane, though it bogs my older system down a bit in spot view (32-bit textures, I believe). But, because it's an older product, the VC falls down in comparison to the two other Carenado Cessnas. It is not fully clickable, and what's worse, the gauge update rate is VERY slow, at maximum two updates per second. It's impossible to fly IFR from the VC with this bird. And that's a shame, because if they could go back and bring the 210's VC up to the same level as the 182/206, I'd go back to it in a second. It's a great high-speed cruiser. The 182RG is light-years ahead of the 210. Gorgeous external model, great internal looks, and a vastly improved VC with very smooth gauges (and it really looks like it's been through the wars, too, very realistic). And it flies wonderfully. The only tiny nitpick I can find with it is that there's some looping in the sound files, especially at or near idle power. Other than that, it's great. And then, there's the 206 Stationair. The best of the three in my opinion. Another gorgeous external model and fantastic texturing. A panel that looks like something you'd find on a plane that's seen a lot of hard use. A very smooth, very beautiful VC that doesn't kill framerates. A flight model that just feels like I'd imagine a heavy, 300-horsepower, six-seat single would feel. (Please note that I'm not a real pilot, but I've seen some real 206 pilots comment very favorably on it.) And maybe the best soundset I've ever heard in a GA aircraft. Combine that with the cargo-pod and amphibian variants, and you get one of the best GA singles around for FS2004, I think. So that's my long-winded :) way of saying, you can't go wrong with either the 206 or the 182RG. If you're going to only get one, I'd take the 206, but I strongly recommend the 182RG as well.Oh, and I also have the Mentor. It has a fairly slow gauge refresh rate in the VC, but it's a very fun plane to fly and pretty easy on framerates otherwise (as are the 206 and 182...the 210 bogs my system down a lot worse for some reason). March 13, 200620 yr I've got just about everything Carenado has ever produced, and the 206 is my hands-down favorite. I like the 182 a lot as well, but for some reason I find myself flying the Stationair more. Of course, the floats option doesn't hurt, and I'm a freight dawg myself so the cargo capacity of the 206 is huge plus. As for the 210... for some reason I never liked that one much. Part of it is the shape of the real thing, which looks a little bloated and ungainly to me, and part is their rendition. I think Carenado has grown exponentially in skill since they put that one out. You can't beat their newest stuff. Oh yeah, and the Mentor is pretty freakin' awesome as well, IMHO.
March 13, 200620 yr Author Hi Moose,I hated that outside looping sound on the 182 too. I fixed it by making a copy of the xrpm4.wav and renaming it to xrpm3.wav. So in effect there are 2 wav files that are the same, #3 & #4. These are the external sound files located in the sound folder. Maybe not the perfect fix, but it gets rid of the looping sound that we all hated. :) Oh, and don't forget to keep a copy of the original #3 file somewhere. To the original question, if I were only getting 1 Carenado plane, I'd get the 206.
