March 26, 200620 yr I have a problem with Thomas Kwong's rendition of Hong Kong International. Everytime I try to do a 7R ILS (109.30) approach about 2nm from the 7R threshold, the aircraft that I am flying makes a sharp left turn. I have tried using other AFCAD but the problem persists. All aircraft, whether default or add-on, have this problem. Does anyone else have this problem?
March 26, 200620 yr I did that exact approach today too. Very nice scenery though. Tried to do a coupled approach then lost the ILS signal, my plane went crazy, had to disconnect autopilot. My passengers got quite a scare. v/rTodd ATP MEL Commercial SEL B-747, BE-300, BE-400, DHC8, ERJ 170/190, MU-300 C-17A Globemaster III
March 27, 200620 yr have you tried another afcad from the library here for that scenery?also are you sure you are not flying a backcourse approach instead of an ILS?
March 28, 200620 yr Yes I tried an AFCAD from the AVSIM scenery library. How exactly would I know the difference between a Backcourse and an ILS approach?
March 28, 200620 yr nevermind, it should be an ILS approach. Not sure why it doesnt work right. which airplane were you using, and does it work with another airplane?
March 28, 200620 yr You will have to contact the Author of that scenery amd have him rework his clk_runways.bgl file. This is his runway texture file and it also has ILS freq. data embedded based on LAT/LON that will not work in FS9 properly. If you remove this file the ILS for 7R will work correctly but you loose all the runway lighting and textures.
March 28, 200620 yr Not sure why only some people seem to have this problem, but I certainly have not experienced this on my system--otherwise, I would not have released the scenery.Having said that, I have reworked the ILS since the last version, so keep watching for a new version of this scenery in the coming weeks which hopefully will solve your problem.Thomas
March 28, 200620 yr ThomasIt could be because of the way people code the approach ILS leadin lights with their AFCAD for 07R.AT 1.7 DME on the ILS the Signal goes to mid (left) airport field which causes the plane to veer left and not recover. This is common when there are to sources of code for the ILS freq. One in the 3rd party scenery and one in the AFCAD which is nested with the runway. One other reason why some will or will not see the problem is based on where they installed the files, FS9sceneryVHHH2005b vs FS9addon sceneryvhhh2005b folder with equal priorities related to the AFCAD.I have your vhhh2005b on a FS9 default installation while I write and design a better FS9 default Kai Tak. This helps to insure compatibility coding (AI Traffic, etc) between the 2 airports. The only file I removed is the vhhh_LC.bgl due to removing to much autogen from the Ship yard area of VHHX. However I do like the LC color and boundry better than what FS9 default has for Kai Tak. I made a Land and water LC for VHHX and Holger is coming up with a good base mesh. Tom Gibson has designed a great looking Checkerboard (GMAX) for the IGS 13.Looking forward to your newer version.
March 28, 200620 yr I sent the following mail to Thomas last October:Hi there, I just recently installed the Hong Kong scenery (2005b) and there seems to be a slight problem with the file "clk_runways.bgl". (I found that out after examination of the AFCAD file dind't tell me anything. I deactivated your scenery and the problem was gone, activated it again and there it was. So I finally decided to move around individual files, until I narrowed it down to that one.) It seems to introduce an extra pair of instrument landing systems. The one for 7L/25R is more or less on the same location, but the one for 7R/25L is not, it's north of the airport. The extra pair of ILSes can be seen on the map view. The problem is, I was on final approach on 7R, when my aircraft suddenly decided to follow the 7R ILS north of the airport, instead of the normal one. Which resulted in a nice crash. Can you offer any insight into this matter? I'm more than willing to provide extra information. One note, I know you closed 7R/25L for landing on both ends, maybe that has something to do with it, but with 100% AI traffic, I need all the runways available. ;-D Thanks. Mike...Never got an answer, but I have since realized it's really not that bad to have one runway for landings and one for take-offs. So for me it's not really an issue anymore. Mike...
April 2, 200620 yr Is there something that I can do to fix this? It is really annoying problem with the scenery. Thomas K, do I understand correctly that you will be releasing an update of your scenery. Any estimate of when that will be complete?
September 15, 200817 yr I've searched around looking for a solution to this problem, but still haven't found one. It's been a couple of years, and this VHHH is still the best. The 07R ILS problem is irritating though.Has anyone found a solution to this?Bryn. Streaming at twitch.tv/brynmwr
September 15, 200817 yr Commercial Member Sadly, looks like Thomas Kwong's updated VHHH is gone forever. Last time I spoke with him he told me he lost all his VHHH modeling files in a hard disk crash and dare I say it... he had no backup! :( Too bad as we had early talks about incorporating his new version into an new version of 9Dragons.I am probably one of the very few lucky ones who obtained his newest unreleased version. He sent it to me to get my opinions on it. Looks like he was re-working the ground textures more.... Looked great. Sad to see it will never be released. In fact, Thomas left his homeland for career so it sounded like he would not be active in the hobby any more or for a long time. Too bad as he did have the best VHHH going and gave so much back to the hobby.
