April 1, 200620 yr To everyone at Aardvark (AIA), a very big THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for all the outstanding AI you've created. I know everyone in the flight sim community will be saddened to read this: http://www.ai-aardvark.com/ as was I.AIA will fly very high in my skies for many years to come... THANK YOU AIA..
April 1, 200620 yr Gosh, David and Craig and the whole Aardvark crew essentially transformed the art of AI modeling. Sad to see them close shop, but we all understand.Their legacy will stand for some time to come. And the path they showed is being picked up by others. The Aardvark contribution to the community is worth our standing and cheering. Wonderful stuff, all.Best,MikePS. Now tell us it is April 1st... --Mike MacKuen
April 1, 200620 yr Today is April 1st. I hope it's just a joke, but if not it will truely be a sad day for the FS community.
April 1, 200620 yr Commercial Member That is true... I wouldn't believe anything I read today in the news... or the forums! But if they do close up shop they should think about passing the torch to some other modelers who would like to continue with their premise. No reason to totally close-up if they did that. Just a thought. Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!) Windows 10, (hold off for now on Win11), EVGA 1300W PSUNetgear 1Gbps modem & router, (3) 27" 1440 wrap-around displaysFull array of Bravo, Saitek and GoFlight hardware for the cockpit. Varjo and HP VR headsets for mixed reality.
April 1, 200620 yr Let's hope David Rawlins over at Aardvark is joking... However, if you read the main page at http://www.ai-aardvark.com David Rawlins has indicated he is retiring from AI modeling. From the main page of Aardvark:"What's going to happen to AIA now? Well, we had lots of discussions about this, and the consensus is that without an active modeler, AIA has no reason to continue. Rather than flail around for months, pretending that various people are going to take up modeling, we all agree that the right thing to do is to close up shop. So, in a few weeks we will be shutting the forums down. For the immediate future, the website and forums will still be viewable as a resource for people looking for information, but there will be no more posting. The repaints pages will also not be updated after today."Instead of turning this thread into a April fools joke.. I think we should instead applaud all those at Aardvark for the great contribution they have made..
April 1, 200620 yr I sure hope it is a joke! But either way, David has been the single greatest contribution to the AI world!
April 1, 200620 yr sad if that is the case, obviously, but he has put a #### of a lot of hard work into those models! It wouldn't surprise me if he wanted to get away from it all...and the very best of luck to David is what I say. His models will still be around for us all to enjoy, and there will still be people around who wanna repaint them... April 1, 200620 yr They are a bunch of jokers over there, was it not last 1st April they launched the AI Meal & Drinks Trolley which has now mysteriously disappeared? However, I could understand it, what a huge amount of effort must have gone into their fantastic output. If they have packed it in, it is a very sad day for the 5% - Aardvark and MRAI gone in one year! However, with Aardvark being in essence a Boeing specialist and the B787 to go into service in 2008, with a huge impact on the way we'd like to see our AI fleets, how much worse is that?
April 1, 200620 yr they are a bunch of jokers! but evolveai also has a farewell to aia on their page. I sure hope it is a joke, but wouldn't be surprised if David wanted to do something else
April 1, 200620 yr Hmmm, I hope I'm not deluding myself here, but I think I'm right in saying there is a cross-over of people between Aardvark and EvolveA sense of humour is a sense of humour whether Boeing or Airbus....Wait 'til tomorrow!Oh, by the way, according to the Mercedes advert in the UK newspapers, there are going to be new speed cameras to detect people driving too slowly. And you can now get special paint as an optional extra on Mercedes cars to make it look as if you are going faster than you are....
