December 28, 20178 yr Is there anything out there that will give a good description on what performance settings do so I can make a more educated decision on the settings I use either with NI, display settings on my monitor and or within P3d? I keep reading things like keep Vsync off in NI, on in P3d, Unlimited frames in P3d, limit them in NI, etc. I am having trouble differentiating what I need to have on/off within NI and within P3d. I also find the AA settings hard to differentiate and therefore don't know what ones to pick. Any help would be great as I will have a lot of time over the next few days to do some tweaking and reading. Here are my top confusion points: AA, unlimited frames, Triple Buffering, Vsync, Gsync, AF - most of these I don't know what should be on/off in the sim or in the NI/card settings. Thanks! Sorry if this is a basic question but as a computer novice, I'd like a better idea what could be better for me or what could be causing issues. December 28, 20178 yr Moderator Your problem is that every system is different and ALL are correct. No one can tell YOU what will work on your system. You simply have to try a set of options and fly for a while, then try another setting. I lock at 20fps with Vsync and triple buffering off and it's perfect. Others must have TB and VS on or it's a mess. You need to get the right balance for YOUR system - no one can do that for you. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
December 28, 20178 yr Author I guess I was looking more along the lines of getting a better understanding of what those do so when I notice something off within the sim, I can have a better understanding of where to look in the settings, rather than picking random things to change. December 28, 20178 yr I was an avid NI user for years but now feel that I get the best perf by doing a clean driver install and using P3D settings only. Most settings are maxed on my 4k setup with 2 1070s. The most important setting for me is between 4MS and 4SS AA with 2SS being the happy medium which I even used back in the FSX days. December 28, 20178 yr Moderator Since they all work together, it's difficult to pinpoint certain things. Typically, if your see "tearing" on the edges of the image when you pan left or right - vsync might be the culprit. If straight lines seem jagged, check the AA settings. Most, not all, have better success locking frames as opposed to unlimited. Really, there is no "settings I should use" - you won't hurt anything - just try different ones BUT fly with it for a day or so. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
December 28, 20178 yr Download the avsim P3D guide which can be found on the sidebar. This is written by Rob and is a great place to start. It will give you some recommendations to try and also explains some of the options. In the PMDG forum there was also a guide on setting up Nvidia inspector. The guide is of no use as it is written for FSX but again it explains all the functions to help you understand. Hope this helps. Cheers bs And I would agree with that....abandoned NI after v4 installation....clean installation and settings are high to some ultra....I am not mentioning FPS that I am getting on complex apts and PMDG planes, but they are really great. All add-ons, ORBX, AS4 and recently UT2 traffic....all good and hopefully will stay that way (but I am always afraid of million updates, etc....). Only part that I am not pleased, while all is really perfect, my I6700 is running at average 75-80% so not sure if that is OK, but temps are monitored and they are low and OK. GPU power (MSI 1070) is lower than before (!) for some reason and no matter what I do nothing is changing.... But I agree....all depends on system. Alex

It is a bit cumbersome to me so maybe if I simplify things I would be more comfortable. I am in 4.1 and fly primarily the FSlabs 320 and PMDG 737/777. What would happen if I just remove NI all together? Would that mess anything up or would I go back to where I was before installing it? No, no...I am not suggesting that....On this forum there are many guys that know more than I do and I read and listen and I ask for help when I need. And as you can see everything depends on the system....All what I am saying is that setting works on my system, and with V4 I don't need anything to get over 60 FPS in the cockpit....I thought I got that "natural" from having LM. As mentioned, I am getting freaked out when I get notification that something needs update...LOL. So it may screw something. BUT! and big BUT, is FSL A320.....no matter what I am 40%-50% less performance......nice machine but it shouldn't drop that much. Alex

Again, my performance isn't bad (to me) in FSlabs or any plane. Just sometimes with panning in the VC can be a little less than smooth. Always looking for ways to improve! And that is where the problem is......We often look for "improvements" even when everything is fine and smooth.....I actually "complained" after switching to LM.....What I am gonna do now? Just fly? Nothing to fix? This time I left everything out of box...with tons of add-ons....few initial tweaks and that's it.... Alex

December 29, 20178 yr Moderator As I said earlier in this thread - just try different settings until you find the ones that work on YOUR system. Asking someone else which ones to use on your system is a waste of time. I would find it amazing if two of us had EXACTLY the same settings. Unfortunately the only real option you have is "trial and error". Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
