Please note NVIDIA has now come forward indicating their GPU's are affected by the vulnerabilities:

It looks like we will need to update our video drivers very shortly.

After I looked quickly through the linked article it seems a driver update is all that is required meaning it's not a hardware issue in Nvidia's case and hence no need for any kind of GPU firmware updates like with the CPUs.

Did I get that correct?

Yes, they are patching against Meltdown so only driver update is required.

Not only is it "not crippling", from the test in the link it's barely noticeable! If there hadn't been all of this publicity about it, most desktop users probably wouldn't have even realised that anything had happened. I'm sure that there have been other updates which have had more of an effect but have slipped quietly under the radar.
