April 28, 200620 yr Has anyone tried autogen tree generators like this one:http://www.fs2000.org/last/news.asp?id=10453Would be interesting to hear opinions. Can it potentially conflict with the payware add-ons (FE, GE + koorby, BEV, etc.)?

April 28, 200620 yr This is a very technique very similar to what Stephen Stever used in BEV, increasing the tree density within the cell borders - a very effective trick. Feng has done a superb job though. Now... where is the eucalypt version? :)

April 29, 200620 yr Basically, what Feng Zhu has done was to paint two to three trees onto each tree texture which previously held only one tree. Autogen trees are basically two 2D vertical squares intersecting at a 90 degree angle. This gives you the impression of a tree with some volume. Feng Zhu's texture basically makes it seem that there are up to five trees in place of the one of the default autogen. Thus, you get more trees at the same FPS impact because the number of objects and the texture size remains the same. It's really excellent. A must have addon for me. http://www.commerciallevel.com/base/suppor...46supporter.jpg
April 29, 200620 yr One thing I'm not clear about. When should I use these new tree textures? 1. Do I need them if running BEV, or do they duplicate what's already been done there?2. Similarly, do I need them if running GE, or do they duplicate what's already been done there?3. And what about if I'm running VOZ?Thanks for the input.Robert Robert Chartoff

April 29, 200620 yr hey everyone, thanks for mentioning the TreeGen thing. :) It all started as a personal project over a weekend that turned into something i wanted to share with this great community. I didn't even know if this "trick" would fool FS9 (because they could have mapped the UVs perfectly, so a change in texture wouldn't work).anyways, it worked and i'm glad you guys like it. :) And Koorby, i'd love to do a VOZ version if i get some time. I actually thought about making different trees for the entire globe...and using a switcher for each region....but too busy right now with E3 around the corner...maybe after.and Robert, to answer your question:1. If you use BEV, you should back up the tree files in your main texture folder (Tree*.BMP files), and then over-write the BEV trees with Treegen. If you don't like them, just copy back your backup2. Same process with GE (though GE uses the default fs9 trees). I actually color-matched these trees to GE specifically...so GE + TreeGen is the ideal combination (all my screenshots were taken with GE textures installed).3. For VOZ, these trees will replace Kooby's trees, so they'll still work, but it won't be Australian trees. But wait for a VOZ verson :) Want me to take a stab at it Koorby?-feng
April 29, 200620 yr Hi Feng,Thanks for the clear explanation. Now I feel safe to give them a try over the weekend.Robert Robert Chartoff
