What gate to use

Featured Replies

I fly out KJAX and usually start at Gate A4 but the FMC does not recognize that gate so how do you know what gate you are at?

I thought that after selecting your departure airport and you select say gate A4 that you would use that to input into the FMC but the FMC does not recognize it is there a particular way it has to be entered

Such as A4 or A 4  or is there a number sequence that is needed

You have to have a data set that includes the gate numbers. Navigraph doesn't really do this.

The function is antiquated anyway, as you simply select the GPS position, as illustrated in the tutorial. The function was originally in there because GPS wasn't available, and a gate function provided a nice, known initial position.

Thanks for the replies. My biggest problem is the fact that KJAX changed its runway numbers due to magnetic variation. They used to be 7/25 and 13/31

The entire airport was rebuilt not to long ago changing gate assignments and completely removing one concourse.

now they are 8/26 and 14/32 . I recently bought KJAX from CLEOSIM that had the proper runway numbers. But the FMC stills see the original numbers. I am thinking about removing the bgl file to a folder outside FSX and see if the problem goes away. I also plan on up dating the FMC this plane uses as it is so old. I was watching a video the other day and the person that reordered the video was using a very unique software that showed gate numbers taxiway numbers and even allowed you to enter your taxi route so the plane would follow it without you having to do anything

it was called AIVLASOFT EFB http://www.aivlasoft.com/

It is a slick software but no exactly cheap but as the old saying goes you get what you pay for

they do have a try before you buy which is a good thing

Hi Gary.  Let me pass along some basic information in this area that will help you.  The addon KJAX should have a higher priority than the default scenery so please don't go off in the direction of default bgl's.  Each bfg has much more than one airport, you will not solve anything.  The PMDG FMC does not care what the scenery has in the way of data because it gets all of its data from navdata.  If your navdata is up to date the current runway numbers should be in the navdata and will be reflected in the FMC.  Gate numbers is a datum that the FMC also gets from the navdata, and this information is rarely/never included for US airports and in any case is irrelevant.  The FMC will use the GPS/INS for location data, not the gate.

Hope this helps.  Good luck Sunday.

Thanks for the information

I just recently updated the Nav data and now have cycle 1801 installed I also found a site that updated the magnetic variation for the world. I also downloaded the charts as well and that helps alot

Thanks
