January 23, 20188 yr Inspired by this Flying magazine feature (click link below), I hope to do more of these $100 burger flights:https://www.flyingmag.com/pilots-places/pilots-adventures-more/best-of-100-hamburgers This $100 Burger trip is to one of my old haunts, Flying W airport near Lumberton, NJ. About 15 miles east of the city of Philadelphia. Used to kick tires and hop on rides on weekends, as well as play golf at the nearby Golden Pheasant Golf Club. The airport cafe was more popular than the bar at the golf course. The cafe at the airport has changed hands a number of times over the years, and the airport complex fought itself out of bankruptcy twice. It is now quite robust, and a destination for families who come for the cafe and the property's swimming pool and poolside bar. And of course to watch the airplanes! Flying W Airport (N14), Patio/Pool Club, and Motel, Lumberton, New Jersey Street level from Google Earth: Menu from Patti Wagon's Cafe on the airport site: Over Philadelpia, Pennsylvania, on the trip back home. KPHL by Sunskyjet is situated just off of the Delaware River in the second screenshot Back home at Easton-Newnam Field (KESN), on the Eastern Shore area of Maryland at the town of Easton. Easton-Newnam is another "$100 Burger" destination for many pilots. Oh! Both airports are from the freeware Orbx World Airports collection. January 23, 20188 yr Nicely done Frank !!! Adding the RW stuff adds to the immersion... Regards, Scott
January 23, 20188 yr Frank, thank you for the great shots! wow, this brings back memories, I used to fly to N14 often when I was flying GA. What a great airport! Glad to hear it is still open. Easy to fly there (new McGuire AFB) ..

South Jersey Regional (KVAY) is still quite active and I believe Red Lion still operates as well. All in less than a six mile radius. January 23, 20188 yr Wow! Great job Frank. Great pics but the entire package is real composition. Thanks for showing us the way. Rick
January 23, 20188 yr Fantastic, and literally 8 minutes from my house. Try the Runway Cafe at VAY (South Jersey Regional) the burgers are pretty decent. In another Avsim forum earlier today I put forward the idea of a $100 Burger Flight forum, similar to this Screenshots forum, where the posts would profile a burger trip and include a shot of both the departure airport and destination airport; a real-world photo or two of the destination airport (or Google earth birds eye view); an image of the cafe or restaurant burger menu; and a screenshot or two of something interesting taken from the air during the trip. Did you read the Flying article on $100 Burger destinations linked in my post? South Jersey Regional is definitely on my list for a future $100 Hamburger post. Have need there a number of times as well. I lived in Medford Lakes across from the golf course from 1985 through 1998. Made some flight weather presentations to a small flying club at KVAY in the late '80's, but the club fell apart. If I recall, the airport ID back then was 7MY. From there in Burlington County you may need to do a few $100 Crab Cake or Steamed Oyster flights! January 24, 20188 yr Yep, fun trip for me is VAY to WWD, and then a trip to the Lobster House in Cape May. Especially is the summer, when even my very slow Grumman AA1B is still quicker than the cars on the AC Expressway!
