PTA + Reshade

Featured Replies

Currently running P3D v4 with PTA and Reshade. Not being an expert in matters relating to this subject would like to know if the visual effects of PTA + Reshade can be accomplished by PTA only, and if reshade can affect frame rates in a big way. Using 3rd Party sceneries like UK2000 and the like with a PMDG aircraft my fps are in the region between 20 & 25 fps.  Would appreciate some feedback before I try and mess around with the current set-up.

Thanks

Interesting question and I'm looking forward to some info here as well.

Up until now I've always kept away from using any post-processing stuff for performance reasons.

I'm currently using URP 1.1 for P3Dv4 without Reshade, the included sky textures and the high contrast setting with the suggested HDR settings in P3D.

Like I just posted in another thread I couldn't be more happy with the result.

I would recommend to use one or the other but not both at the same time.

PTA implements filters to improve your simulator views by using P3D shaders, these in turn instruct your GPU to implement Directx filters, etc.

Reshade apply filters using Directx directly (no using P3D shaders) to also improve your simulator views results.

On both cases the filters are applied to each frame displayed (FPS).

By using both you are most likely overloading your GPU as it will apply DX instructions from PTA via P3D and repeat these with Reshade via Directx dlls, increasing the required time your GPU takes to process each frame which can affect your FPS.

This depends of course of which filters you are usings with Reshade and what settings on PTA you are using, a easy way to test is to disable Reshade temporally via the hotkey and see if your GPU load decrease and your FPS improve.

I did not like any of the reshade effects I tried alongside PTA, so I only use PTA.

Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!

I use envshade and reshade.

One modifies internal shaders the other injects external shaders.

Perfectly fine to use them together as long as you don’t go crazy on reshade effects.

Depending on which effects you use they can put a significant load on your gpu. This would affect FPS if the gpu is the current bottleneck in P3D.

I intentionally stress tested my Reshade effects by turning on dynamic reflections at night with SSAAx8 and the result was a 3-4 FPS difference with Reshade enabled.

I have about 6-8 customized effects loaded in Reshade.

Nvidia has recently launched their own shader modifying tool at the driver level but I have yet to try it and I’m not sure if it even works in P3D at the moment.

Indeed an interesting topic. I currently use the azul preset from REX for PTA and Reshade for some sharpening, colour, tint and curves. I like the result and I don't see a frame rate impact with reshade. FPS limited to 33 though.

Thank you all for the feedback, I'm going to try and disable Reshade and only use PTA and see if there is big difference in fps, etc.

Update

I have removed Reshade completely and was pleasantly surprised by the immediate increase in FPS. Tested it UK2000 EGLL with ASv4 and PMDG 747. Not vvery long ago did a flight from this airport on Vatsim with same type aircraft and similar weather and barely got 21fps in the VC. Now after removing Reshade VC fps with unlimited setting 32fps and up and outside 45+ fps. It appears that Symbol's advice was correct at least in my case. All I need now is a decent PTA profile that gives some real life vivid colour and contrast.

Best regards.
