ATC in Storms

Hey there! Another quick question I had was for flying G.A. at lower levels.

With the default ATC, is there anyway / tricks to request deviation for storms? I once flew through a thunderstorm....never again

I know there isn't an option in the menu I have seen, but I didn't know if there were any tricks to going off course or otherwise.

One thing you can do when assigned a frequency change; change the frequency as assigned, but don't make the contact. Then, you won't be bugged every few seconds. It's not a very satisfactory method but default ATC isn't very realistic either. I would like to find a way to dramatically reduce the frequency congestion on a regular basis.

The ATC  in FSX leaves much to be desired.  When flying an IFR plan it will not allow you to deviate from that plan for any reason.  As Les Parson suggested, when you are commanded to contact another controller, confirm that you received the message, change comm frequency, then do not contact the new controller until you are clear of the bad weather.

Honestly though, I just fly without ATC or use VATSIM/IVAO. The default ATC is really only suited to default planes. It uses ridiculously outdated navigation aids and is...sigh, not realistic at all.
