April 8, 20188 yr Early during every FSX startup, while the intro / splash screen is visible, a pop up states the scenery configuration is rebuilding. I know that FSX must read the scenery.cfg (and much more) during startup, But in the past, all this was invisible (no pop ups). Otherwise FSX seems to behave as normal. Just wondering what I might have done to cause the scenery rebuild pop up to appear during each FSX start. And if this might be indicative of further probs. April 8, 20188 yr try to use scenery configurator editor https://sourceforge.net/projects/fs-sceditor/ Under "Actions" select "reset area and layers numbers and reordner the file" and after that manually delete everything under: "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX\SceneryIndexes". It's going to be rebuilded on next startup. Zeljko Budovic
April 9, 20188 yr Author Hi Zeljko, Thank you for your reply and the procedure. I carefully followed the steps, then rebooted the PC, then tried restarting FSX twice. The scenery rebuilding pop up still occurs during the startup. Not sure what it means, but I'm naturally suspicious ~:) Haven not noticed any obvious problems after (FSX) startup. April 10, 20188 yr Author Hi Jim, Thank you for the reply. The "rebuild Scenery Cache on Exit" has been un-ticked throughout....... Ken Ken Boardman
April 10, 20188 yr Scenery Cache is usually rebuilded only if there is a change in scenery.cfg(new scenery added, or enabled / disabled), or if some scenery error is present. The scenery configurator editor is good in detecting errors, check if there is a message about that on the right. This is interesting, there shouldn't be a error since you have rebuilded scenery.cfg already. Zeljko Budovic
April 11, 20188 yr Author Hi Zeljko, I am somewhat familiar with when FSX should be rebuilding the scenery so I understand and appreciate your explanation. I opened the scenery cfg editor right away to check for any errors, but there were none listed. But perhaps there is one anyway. I have attached links to my Dropbox Acct containing a set of screen captures showing my whole FSX library. It shows the sceneries in their present order which has existed for weeks. I wish I could remember exactly when I first noticed this behavior, but alas .......... I won't blame you if you decline to visit my Dropbox. Going through all that stuff would be a royal PITA ~:) Butt, here they are. If there is anything else you'd like to see I'll try to get it for uploading. Thank you for helping. April 25, 20188 yr Check this: [Area.005] THAT AREA CORRESPONDS TO LAYER. If not read below... Title=0002 Base Local=Scenery\0002 Layer=5 Active=TRUE Required=FALSE Download FST Scenery, a Little program that reorganises your scenery.cfg and puts it back in order. It has helped me several times. It's an execute file. execute it to temp, then move the file to Programdata where your scenery.cfg resides. Berlopez
