June 20, 200619 yr Hi All,I am curious to see what happens when Vista is released in all it's Different Versions, and we finally get FSX, because I have been told that FSX will require digitally signed .dll files, no more .dll files will be able to be used in the next release unless Microsoft have digitally signed off on them. If this is the case, then we might see a few companies go under, and a lot of people stopping making some of these great freeware programs that we use because they will not be able to afford the license fees of Microsoft. Just a heads up for you.
June 20, 200619 yr IF such a license would be required, it will make a great case for retaining FS9 and forgetting FSX. I suspect reality will be that you will simply be notified that it is not digitally signed and that it may foul up FSX, then asked if you want to retain it similar to such notifications in FS9 on some third party items. Happy flying:RTH
June 20, 200619 yr The digital signing only applies to kernel-mode. All user-mode applications will still run just fine.Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. June 20, 200619 yr I know very little about this but i was under the impression that digital signing was not the same as licensing and no cost. Why would an author have to license a dll they created themselves and own?
June 20, 200619 yr >Hi All,>>I have been toldThere you go. Let's see written proof of this from Microsoft. Point me back to this thread a year from now if your statements are true and I will gracefully eat my words. BUT:1. I have been told many things too - of which MANY have never been close to the actual truth.2. Do you know if this is just for the "core" .dlls that FSX uses? Or is it for ALL .dll's?3. Do you know if like said above maybe a warning message will appear and we click through it to use it?4. If not through .dlls, someone somewhere will invent a way to hook into the sim without dll's, trust me, someone told me.
June 20, 200619 yr Always best to find ot the facts before posting speculations.Do you honestly think MS would release an OS that would require that each and every .dll on the system was digitally signed? It may be a security option, it may be on by default, it may cover certain files under certain conditions, but if it is there it is not going to be fixed.
June 20, 200619 yr Author > The digital signing only applies to kernel-mode. All user-mode applications will still run just fine.Game. Set. Match. Nothing to see here... move along....
