Radar sweep

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I have a question. I just upgraded to P3D V4, and I noticed that on all airplanes there's a 10 seconds wait between radar sweeps. In the real thing, there's not wait, it just goes back and forth. In FSX there was no wait at all. Is there a solution for this?

Keep in mind that radar sweep speeds are dependent on the range that you have selected on the N.D ( Nav Display). ie. The sweep is faster at 40nm range than 160nm or 320

I know there's a lot of money in aviation because I put it there.

It’s the same speed in any range. In FSX, long time ago there was no issue like that.

The thing is in TERR mode the sweep has no interval, it just keeps going back and forth, no delay at all. This is how the real thing is.

It is possible to configure the radar so that the pilot and copilot displays are using different tilt angles. In that mode of operation the two displays only sweep in a single direction - i.e. the pilot display would only sweep left to right, and the copilot display would only sweep right to left.

The terrain mode is not radar.  The sweep is artificial, the terrain display comes from data files not from "sweeping" the ground.  The sweep is mostly eye candy anyway, if you have a modern radar the antenna is not sweeping mechanically because it's all done with a steerable beam.

Interesting! Is this modeled in the PMDG? Let's find out when I get home.

Tested my wxr yesterday, 1 second intervals between sweeps with same tilt/gain for left and right.
