Prepar3Dv4 4K Resolutions Full or Window Mode

Featured Replies

Hi

i have a 55” Samsung 8500 series and i noticed 2 things

window mode - the screen is normal and non-glossy

Full mode - I get a gorgeous glossy textures. When I click on mouse middle button it change back to normal texture. Sometime it will switch back and forth when I go to external view. I am not sure what’s happening.

I barely use full screen this is why I was amaze how beautiful it looks with all the shiny or glossy look. Anyone have this experience??

I ran into something similar when setting up the NVidia control panel to use custom NVidia color settings, and then after rebooting Windows would revert to it's own color settings.  I don't remember where the Windows setting to turn this off is... I'm sure it can be found with Google.

This is a known driver bug.  See this link:  https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1073754/official-411-70-game-ready-whql-display-driver-feedback-thread-released-9-27-18-/

Win10 Search bar, type "Windows HD Color Settings" ... I disable it and use NCP and make sure color format is FULL and not limited.  Depending on how one wants to define "HDR" ... some say HDR can be done with 8bit, but in my understanding it requires 10bit (or higher) and of course a panel/monitor that supports 10bit.  FYI, AF2, P3D, XP11 are all 8bit color space so there is no benefit to having a 10bit display/monitor if these are your primary apps.

If you do use Win10 to manage HDR and not NCP, then you'll need to make sure your monitor setting are adjusted and setup accordingly otherwise one's desktop/apps make look very washed out.

However, there are a few (very few) games that actually do support 10bit output.  There are movies that do support 10bit HDR and Win10 1809 does support them .. although I haven't actually tested this yet.

Cheers, Rob.

As I understand it, P3Dv4 is always in windowed mode, and does not have a true full-screen mode (what many think is full screen is really just a borderless window).

Given that, video characteristics shouldn't change as the result of window size--it's windowed mode either way.

I also use a Samsung 8500, and have never seen this.  I wonder if maybe the horizontal scan rate is changing as the result of something like a vsync setting and the TV is changing modes as a result.
