Night lighting

Featured Replies

I noticed my lights at night don’t show in the distance, particularly at high altitudes. When they do, they seem to shimmer a bit.  Is there a fix to this or is it a known sim issue?  I use PTA if that makes a difference.

The draw distance for the 3D lights do not go out very far so not much you can do for that.  For the shimmering, I find FXAA helps quite a bit so I always turn it on at night.  I use PTA to keep the night textures a little brighter so you can see them out in the distance.  The 3D lights ( I use ORBX) show up as you get lower.  I use the 'Extra small' 3D lights in the ORBX light configurator which I think helps a bit as well.

Hi, you may want to try Simmers home SH Slim lights. These lights IMHO are the best I have ever seen for P3D ver 4. Just look at their web site. They just about cover the world.

are FPS friendly and don't flicker or pop. My night lighting has never been better and I have been simming a long long time and the best thing is these are totally free but there is a donation button if you care to donate. I saw a thread  a few weeks ago about them here but since then nothing. Maybe it's been taken down. I am so impressed with these lights I almost only fly at night now. Go to their web page and look at the many previews of different places and see for yourself. The site is German but just use google translator and and all pages will show english with manuals. This is truly a great find and they have very good support. If you use ORBX which they say works best with them they have detailed instructions  and configurators to get them set up properly. There is an awful lot you can do with them. Hope this helps, check them out

I've recently installed Envshade and it seems to me that I can observe lights from greater distance now.
