what program is doing this? (jet wash/wake turbulance)

Featured Replies

I have lots of addons installed so I sort of lost track which program does this... but I have a jetwash problem... or wake turbulance i can call it?whenever I'm very close to another plane (i was just trying to get real close to a 777 to get next to it) but as soon as I was about a mile behind it my KIAS went to 50ish, took a hard nose down dive and had to regain the aircraft... I remember enablign an option for something like this thinking it woud be cool and realistic.. well now its just being gay and I cant get close to any planes... I unchecked activesky's wake turbulance option but still have this problem... any help? what program can be causing this?

Active sky I bet

what can it be then?i disabled everything that sounds like could be the cause

>what can it be then?i disabled everything that sounds like>could be the causeMore likely than anything, it's ActiveSky or some other weather maker. If not, be sure to go into FSUIPC and reset to default settings (there's a button available in FSUIPC that allows you to reset it)

here is a shot of whats happening... I get close, speed drops to 0...#####?problemodi0.jpgproblemo2yi4.jpg

Hi This is actually due to the FS collision detection actually working on a sort of sphere around the plane in question. You (I`m guessing you have collision detection disabled in realism) are getting close enough to the collision detection sphere at which point your aircraft 'bounces off' and drops instantly to zero knots. Your plane the falls until sufficient airspeed builds up for a recovery..If you had crash / collision detection on FS would record a collision and reset the situation at exactly the same point. Annoying isn`t it. Its default behaviour and as far as I know cannot be fixed, though some aircraft have tighter collision detection 'spheres' than others.CheersJames

well that really sucks... can I edit the aircraft.cfg to make it very very small?

Not to get off topic, but if I'm flying as a passenger on that plane I would be very scared......

Hi Unfortunately I do not know how to change it. I suspect it is in the .mdl file, which is created in whichever 3d editing app was used build the aircraft (probably Max or FSDS). Its also a proprietry file owned by the developer of the aircraft..CheersJames

From your pix I would suspect wake turbulence. There are options in Active Sky 4 though 6 that adjust the effects. You can turn wake turbulence off in these versions. These will also make the adjustments in FSUIPC.I would also have wind smoothing available in thosed options. As far as crash detection I don't know but since you are both moving I do not see why your IAS would dump to zero other than disruption from the vortices from the aircraft in front, perhaps also influenced by a virtual protection ring around the aircraft.I'd give first consideration to AS 6 settings. I also think I've seen some wind tunnel results showing that besides wing tip vortices a large moving obstacle in front of your aircraft (like the heavy shown) could block the air in back for a short distance creating a vacuum like effect. No air, no lift, no AIS. I do not know how this is modeled. In real world flying I do not think an aircraft would trail that close at the same altitude. Think or aircraft to aircraft refueling where the trailing aircraft is well below the fueler.
