Default planes?

Featured Replies

Is there any update on what the defaults will be? And does the Beaver also come with wheels?

The one thing I have heard is the DHC2 is floats only...

Rick

No, floats only.

I like the FS9 DC3 and few other default planes that came with FS9.Would I be able to import them into FSX? But we would need to figure out the guages and other files that are strewn all over.Manny

You won't need to worry about the DC-3 since it's also in FSX.

But we would need to>figure out the guages and other files that are strewn all>over.>>MannyI too am hoping that the FS2004 COF aircrafts can be imported over to FSX. Some of them are pretty nice, like the Ford Trimotor, DeHavilland_Comet, and Lockheed Vega, not to mention the DC-3(altough I fly MAAM-SIM's DC-3), Spirit of St. Louis and Curtiss Jenny. As far as getting the gauges, it would be a little bit of work but not too hard really(everything else needed is contained within the aircraft's subfolders, the sound, textures, model, ect). And really, the main gauge file for each of these aircrafts is contained within the aircraft's own 'Panel' subfolder. This is a feature that was new for FS2004(for instance 'DeHavilland_Comet.cab' gauge is contained in this aircraft's 'Panel' folder). Then look at the 'panel.cfg' file. For instance, the DeHavilland Comet's panel.cfg has lines that show that almost all the gauges it uses are in the 'DeHavilland_Comet.cab' file.gauge01=DeHavilland_Comet!OAT, 86, 586gauge02=DeHavilland_Comet!Clock, 75, 659gauge03=DeHavilland_Comet!Turn_Slip, 257, 330ect, ect...------------------------------Then there are just a couple of others...gauge25=SimIcons1024!Kneeboard Icon, 631, 703gauge26=SimIcons1024!ATC Icon, 653, 703gauge27=SimIcons1024!Map Icon, 675, 703ect...{Window01}BACKGROUND_COLOR=0,0,0size_mm=208,129position=7visible=0ident=RADIO_STACK_PANELgauge00=Handheld_Radio!radio,0,0{Window02}size_mm=545,354window_size=0.5,0.3625position=2BACKGROUND_COLOR=0,0,0VISIBLE=0ident=GPS_PANELgauge00=fs9gps!gps_295, 0,0This tells you that you need to go into FS2004's 'Gauges' folder and copy over the...'SimIcons1024.cab''Handheld_Radio.cab''fs9gps.cab'...files into FSX's Gauges folder. Then you need to see if those gauges work in FSX.If there's problems they'll most likely be with the fs9gps.cab gauge. But it's a 'pop-up window' and is easy enough to remove and/or replace with the FSX gps if desired. If however the SimIcons1024.cab doesn't work then it gets a little harder, or it's really easy if you have FS Panel Studio, which I have. Of course this is all assuming that the DeHavilland_Comet.cab gauge works ok in FSX and that the panel.cfg file syntax and structure has remained the same in FSX(or is at least backwards compatitble). I have a feeling the COF aircrafts will pretty much transfer right on over, or end up being pretty easy to make a few minor adjustements to their panel.cfg files to make them work. From what I have seen in the video preview/interview of FSX with Shawn Firminger, Manager of ACES Studio, stressing backward compatibility for aircrafts and scenery within FSX, I have high hopes that they will work just fine. If the panel.cfg files need a few tweaks then I would imagine that it would be ok for someone like me to make the changes and then upload the panel.cfg files to the avsim library so those that have FS2004 COF can use the COF aircrafts in FSX.Cheers,OneTinSoldier

I read in P-12C's blog that he showed pics of all the aircraft in his Spain presentations, so it doesn't seem like the aircraft list needs to be kept secret anymore. I know, I know, I'm being impatient :)

Tdragger already told us a couple of months ago that all the historic planes in FS04 that were not continued/improved (I'm hoping the DC-3 is improved) can be imported from FS04.MS has done this before like the F-4U (for that matter all the CFS2 flyables work fine in FS02 & FS04) from FS02 in FS04. There are other examples but this is late in my day and they wont come to mind. We know so far that the DC-3 & Cub will be brought forward. The one I want most is the Jenny. I really enjoy that aircraft in FS04. And if they aren't going to upgrade that one I can live with it as it is already pretty great.I figure to bring over the 737-400... not sure why... it isn't that great but will add to the "family". :-hmmmThe ones I'd really like to see updated are the old flyables from CFS2... Wildcat, Hellcat, Corsair, Lightning, Zeros, and that other Japanese one. (Told you my mind isn't working. ;)) Of course I know that wont happen. I do hope they continue to have the needed gauges. But speaking of gauges I'll bet you a quarter that the gauges for the FS04 historic aircraft that aren't in FSX will be there just waiting for you to import the aircraft via whatever the import process will be for FSX. :)

Ah, very good. Thanks for the info.

Ok. Now another question. The "regular" version is said to have 18 planes, but the Deluxe 24 planes. This site: http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimul...oduct_info.htmlshows 20 planes. Why is it being so hard to find out which planes are in which editions? :)

I must say, after spending some time in the FSX beaver, that I wish it was wheeled or amphib, since you lose so many use options with floats only. It is really nice and I can see using it quite often, just needs some wheels, LOLheck, throw in the source file and I'll add them, LOLRegards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/ambanner.jpg

I didn't see an amphib Caravan either; as much a workhorse as wheeled Beavers are....haha, for when you want to do more "up north" than just deliver pizza. :)

"I didn't see an amphib Caravan either"I gather there isn't to be one. I imported the FS04 one into the demo and it looks & flys great but when you land in the water it doesn't get any drag from the water... even with engine off and full flaps it just keeps skimming along at speed until or unless it hits something... hope that can be fixed.

The Aerosoft Beaver works great in the demo.Mike you're such a tease (or maybe just don't want to deal with people who don't search through forums and having to repeat yourself). Here's a link to the Mike's list of aircraft in the product:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=searchThomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)
