If memory serves (which is always iffy) when I used AVX offset in my standard test flight around the patch at KLAX I would see the frequency drop intermittently.   Most of the time it was full speed.  So I don't use AVX offset for normal flying because I would only see brief spikes in my temps.

Thanks Larry.

Thanks Larry.

I'm going to have to run that test again.  I found one of my hwinfo logs from that time (22 Nov) and it shows the AVX speed (4.7GHz) 67% of the time.  Core 0 was AVX 48% of the time.  The other 7 cores ranged from 65-74%.  All 8 cores were at 4.7 24% of the time. On average 6 of the 8 cores would be at 4.7 and 2 cores would be 5.0 at any given time.

P3D runs AVX???

Edit... Saw a thread where they say it's just when loading P3D. Is that true? If so off-set is okay.

Dude!

If you actually used P3D you'd know that P3D never stops loading   ....yeah, an occasional pause but the hdd activity light is never out for long.  🙂

Yeah, that's been my experience too.  The 100MHz of CPU frequency I lose occasionally I don't notice... in either heat spikes or visual performance.

A curiosity... I have a standard test flight I've used for the last 16 years... flying north up the San Fran Bay from Candlestick Park to Napa at 3000' (first using the FSX C172, and for the last few years the Carenado C185).  I know exactly when/places the AVX offset will kick in throughout that flight... it's always been the same thru all these years.  Before AVX I could see the performance hit visually (textures starting to blur/slow load) as well as smoothness, and in slight spikes of CPU heat.  Even since I started using ORBX NorCal (first in FSX and now in P3Dv4) it's the same... performance hits at the same places all along the route... dating all the way back to FS2002!

AVX is just another tool we can use... or not... to manage the beast.  😀

Re the "actually"! Did you "actually" read my post? I don't "actually" use P3D. That's the point, why I asked. I don't. Simming is for girls. 🙂

Ditch simming and spend some time doing bench press, lateral raises, triceps extensions and lat pull downs. Not to mention pec deck flyes and supinating biceps curls.

Really? back tri and bi in my sleep:

I run 6 to miles a week; swim 4 miles a week (3 miles in pool 1 in bay with Swim with Pedro (Swim with Pedro -Waterworld - San Francisco), and find time to hit the gym 3 days a week  ....where did you grow up????

Now, I'm smarter than you because I had all summer to figure out P3D after breaking a foot this past spring running a pig trail near my house.

....So where did you grow up? 🙂

Do they do dumbbells and barbells that light, in grams? 😀 Wake up and you may lift heavier.

Specific adaption to imposed demands my friend. If you want to be a man like me and have lovely muscles you need to specialise. Extreme muscular hypertrophy may fool the girls that you are worthy. ROFL

I figured out quantum filed theory so does that mean I'm smarter than you. Not to mention a master at stimulating muscular hypertrophy in skeletal muscles. 🏋️♂️💪👍 I could teach you much, but my courses start at $1000 a month. Lol!

Oh I don't know  ....I do take sleeping aids, though.

As long as I can get out of bed faster than the Rolls Royce RB211-524G's can get the 747 to cruz altitude ....I'm feeling good!

Having read most of Jack London's Martin Eden ....I recognize glib when I see it.

Quick question.

I have looked at the numerous 9900k OC guides and noticed that neither of them discuss LLC parameters any longer. Is LLC out of fashion with all these new motherboards?

Nope... no different to before. Recently watched JJ from Asus video on Newegg TV, he talks about LLC.

May be that the auto rules are doing a good job. Thing is though, many just leave LLC on Auto and work with it. If there's a little droop, attitude is, so what, just tweak voltage till stable and accept the droop.

But no, don't think LLC is any different to before.

As Martin indicated I'm using the Auto setting for LLC on my Maximus XI Code.  When I check the value it always shows either 6 or 7.
