GTN 750 in VR (resolved)

Featured Replies

Do I understand correctly the GTN in the 3D panel, not the popup VR window, is not interactive?

This is simply because XP11 SDK does not offer third party plugins any mean to interfacing the mouse clicks.

Our plugin can only render in 3D over the reserved panel.png surface. This 'surface' must be modelled - pre-baked - in the 3D cockpit mesh otherwise there is no surface to render to, and there is no SDK to 'create' such surfaces at runtime.

To catch the mouse in the 3D cockpit, we use an invisible window covering the entire screen just so that we can get mouse clicks callbacks, and pass them along to the plugin.

It seems when in VR more, the full screen window is not working and there is little to do about this (XPlane limitation).

I suspect FlyInside being external to the internal XP11 rendering engine, is 'just' making the same scene render twice with a different camera position (for the other eye), but this doesn't affect XP11 normal 2D/3D operation, whereas XP11 VR changes the way it renders to the screen and changes the nature/behavior of the 2D/3D operation to adapt these to the VR world. The advantage is that they are maybe rendering the same scene twice but they are not uploading twice the same data to the video card (there are instancing features just for this which are good for VR).

By the way, should you are looking to enhance your XP VR look and feel, you might want to have a look at this:

hi all, very interested in gtn 750 and before purchase one question ; can i interact the gtn 750 interface within cockpit in VR with a mouse but not the controller just like the Eclpise 550 ? i really enjoy the gtn 750 in the eclpise 550 so i planning to install in the citation 2.  thanks ...

Hi,

As of now X-Plane doesn't offer any mean to interact with the mouse as far as I know in VR. There is a hack which could be exploited, but like for all hacks, I'd rather see this feature implemented as a core feature in the X-Plane SDK.

Mind you, we're thinking about maybe adding this hack as an 'experimental advanced setting' but I'm really not comfortable with this.

thanks 4 ur reply RXP, just bought on sale now and try it in citation 2 and mouse working in pop out interface but not working in FIX panel in VR , im quite happy with it and highly recommand to Vr user ...however im just wondering if i could replace it to Elcpise 550  home gtn 750 ,anyone have any ideals ..?

Hi,

I just bought it yesterday and found out that I couldn´t click on the gtn750 embedded on the panel in VR. Since I´m migrating slowly from p3d to XP11, the GTN and VR are a must for me . Don´t get me wrong, I love the product and I´ll keep it cause I can fly with it in VR with the GTN dettached from the panel, but that destroys some of the atmosphere that VR builds.

If I can vote for that "experimental hack", please count me in. (I guess Laminar will solve it sometime but we are entering the "don´t know when-how" terrain here,

Cheers

Carlos

Hi, I'll see what we can do in the currently planned update, no promises though.

Thanks Jean-Luc for your fast reply and excellent product!

I would also upvote this!! All I do now is fly in VR and it was such a huge let down to know I couldn't interact with the integrated 750 panel in VR. The gtn750 is awesome! Absolutely love it, but not having this feature is holding me back from using it at the moment. I've been flying with the Eclipse 550 which has a somewhat simulated gtn750 (not nearly as functional) and it suffices right now since it has VR interaction.

Hi,

just to be clear: VR interaction doesn't exists only when the GTN is integrated in the 3D panel, because X-Plane does not offer interaction with 3D panel rendered 'gauges'.

However, it works fine with using the GTN as a popup window in VR isn't it?

Hi,

a quick follow up in case you've missed it: our latest update v2.5.11 now includes experimental support for VR controllers on the touch screen!

Instructions to enable this are in this discussion:

Can you please try out and report whether it is working for you?

Oh thanks!!

I´m pretty much knackered by the flu right now, but I did a quick check and it was working prefectly with the oculus VR controller.

Awesome, Jean-Luc.

Cheers

Tried the hack but can't seem to get it to work?

Any ideas?

Thanks

@Gixxar Hi, you just need to create a file with the specific file name. It can be empty or whatever:

  1. Open Notepad
  2. Type blah blah blah or nothing
  3. Save the file to the location indicated with the same file name (ATTENTION: it must end with .ini, not .ini.txt)

NB: this 'process' to enable the hack is just there as this is experimental. Once confirmed it is working it will become a standard feature in the next updates.

  • Can you confirm this is more or less what you've done?
  • What VR gear do you have?
  • Can you try 'triggering' with another button than the one you usually use?

Hi,

I have created a .ini file called "RealityXP.GTN.vr_mouse_enable.ini",and saved it to X-Plane\Output\Preferences.

I am using Oculus Rift

And I have tried all the different buttons which has no effect.

Thanks
