August 15, 200619 yr The answer is simple - do your own Photoreal texture. Microsoft's Terrascene has the best photos of the USA but only a few areas and the project seems to be without any funding to add areas.Google Earth is a good source worldwide but the quality varies widely.I have done 1.2 meter/pixel texture with FS9. The results are exceptional. However there are anomalies. PLUS, the files are very large as is the processing time. Given the numbers on the Texture slider I will at least do where I live since Google Earth covers it with "reasonable quality". Some Paint Shop color adjustment is needed. Sbuilder is the tool of choice for me IF it is modified to produce any new required file formats.Dick near 5G8 regards, Dick near Pittsburgh, USA
August 15, 200619 yr OK then, so landclass still isn't perfect but hopefully it's better than before. I'm sure in time we will be able to buy FSXX or whichever version it is with a perfect representation of the world. I'm patient...Anyway, the question is: will replacement landclass for previous versions of the sim still work? Does FSX still have the 1.2 km square thing going on? If it's been reduced to a smaller tile size I wouldn't expect old landclass to work, but new improved and more detailed landclass will be possible so that'll be something to look forward too.cheersChris
August 15, 200619 yr Keep in mind that the final might have more accurate landclass. Also keep in mind that some areas might be more accurate than others. Thirdly, keep in mind that this is default scenery and while it may be decent, it may not be mindblowing. And forth, though it is a little inaccurate, I think it looks good enough to make people happy enough to fly with it until a better 3rd party addon comes along. Some areas may look good and accurate enough to where a 3rd part addon wouldn't make much of a difference and then there are other areas where a 3rd party addon would make a huge difference.I still think the default FSX landclass is MUUUUUUCCCCCHHHHHH better than default FS9.
August 15, 200619 yr The FSX terrain.cfg file suggestw that landclass definitions are unchanged for FSX. However, we know that there are 20-something regions. It isn't stated, but my assumption is that the resolution of landclass remains LOD13 (1.2km). Without a tmfviewer or 3rd party tool to look at regions.bgl and worldlc.bgl it is difficult to say how accurate the landclass assignments will be. Also difficult to see a better source than the landsat for global landclass. The supplied landclass tile textures are region b, which in FS9 is the US. Maybe that will change in the final. As far as Google earth, when it has 5 seasons, night, and dusk/dawn blending, then I will be interested in it for simming.scott s..
August 15, 200619 yr One thing I'd like tot know is if the Autogen building will be changed to look more "Carribean" or local to whatever region you are flying in.
August 15, 200619 yr >One thing I'd like tot know is if the Autogen building will>be changed to look more "Carribean" or local to whatever>region you are flying in.Seconded. I'd like a bit more of an idea on just what these 23 scenery areas will do for us. We've seen a few of the differences in vegetation and building style, but no real direct comparison. If I was to request some screenshots (not that I would actually do that! :D ), I would ask for some that would show off the scenery areas, perhaps even over seasonal changes.
August 15, 200619 yr Hey Tdragger,I just compared the backyard at my house with Google Earth. There is a rose garden showing on Google Earth that isn't showing in FSX!I want this fixed!!!:-wave
August 16, 200619 yr >Hey Tdragger,>>I just compared the backyard at my house with Google Earth.>There is a rose garden showing on Google Earth that isn't>showing in FSX!>I want this fixed!!!:-wave Yeah, I'll add that to the list. Check back in 2009. ;)
August 16, 200619 yr I would just be happy if e.g. Europe wouldn't look like 40000 years ago as in FS9 with the default landclass.Alex Alex' Projects: Little Navmap
August 16, 200619 yr Here is an excellent article from MS ACES that explains how the image generation in FSX works:http://www.fsinsider.com/articles/Global_T..._Technology.htm
August 16, 200619 yr >Aha! FS11 is confirmed for 2009 :) :-lol :-lol :-lol Poor tdragger!Every time he makes any kind of committal statement, he gets pounced on by us hungry FS wingnuts!Hey Mike, when is the rumored "USB BioPort" feature for direct central nervous system brain & spinal nerve interconnections (Direct-CNS
August 17, 200619 yr So if it's 4500 DVD's....when will we have the whole Earth looking real? MegaScenery is cool if you're at a million feet but its so flat looking.See ya for Flight Simulator 53.
August 17, 200619 yr >Here is an excellent article from MS ACES that explains how>the image generation in FSX works:Wasn't this article actually written for FS2004? I thought I have read that the FSX model was changed? (i.e. you can now fly over the north and south poles). Also, anyone else notice the reference to dual core processing?
