WT3 Generating Group Routes outside of sim?

Featured Replies

Hey folks - I know this is not 100% XP related, but for anyone who has WT3 is there any way to generate ground routes outside of the sim?  I figure that way I can build them while im not flying instead of waiting sometimes 10-20 minutes for them.

You have to use WED. There are a lot of tutorials for WED on Youtube..for example:

What's weird as well is that it used to build the ground routes really fast taking only a minute or so. Since the past couple of months it has been taking 15 to 20 mins as the OP said and sometimes crashing my sim. Not sure if somehow 11.30 is causing this to take longer.

I think you mixed that up... the actual WT ground routes can only be generated with WT and only in-sim, unfortunately.

Are you using the latest test build of WT? It's known that it takes much longer than the official release.

Here's a little "hack" to speed up ground generation: pause the sim, go to tower view and look up (facing space). Then generate ground routes, having the largest possible chunk of CPU time available to WT.

Thanks Colonel X. That explains things then as I am indeed using the latest test build as you suggested but was unaware of this 'bug'. I will follow your tip and plan to make coffee while it generates next time 😎.

I'm using 3.1.9, is it worth downgrading - or just go for the look up tower view trick?

3.1.9 is the official version with faster generation, no need to downgrade. Generating ground routes will still be much faster as described. It's simply a matter of CPU load - when you look at the sky, X-Plane doesn't need much, and the saved amount is available to WT.

There's a section over at the Org that has prepared packages for ground routes for some gateway and third party airports:
