750/650 integration

Featured Replies

Wondering why developers dont have the combo for the GTN 750 and 650 together for the AC that come with the gtn750 for some of the GA AC like the ones from Carenado and Alabeo. Is there an easy way to replace the Garmin 430 with the 650?

The gauge surround is typically modeled in 3d and cannot be removed by the user..

So ripping out a GNS and installing a GTN is not really possible unless the original developer provides that option.

It depends: most XP11 aircraft are now designed with modular/individual objects and it is often the case the GPS is a standalone .obj file attached to the aircraft .acf file.

However, there remains two issues due to how the X-Plane developers have designed their simulator:

  • In X-Plane, there is not individual gauge. Instead, the "aircraft/panel/gauge/button" form a singular block, although some of these can be embedded in individual .obj files you can remove/detach from the aircraft .acf file with Plane Maker for example, or manually.
  • X-Plane SDK doesn't offer the tools for plugins to 'create' a rendering/textured surface. It must be pre-compiled into the 3D model (panel.png)
  • The 3D click spots are all embedded in a separate file. There is no way to selectively remove this and that click spot easily because this is more or less a flat list of click spots without any particular grouping (which would ease removing an entire set at once).

It is not impossible to do though, but it requires manual work and I'm quite amazed with what is done with the King Air for example:

One thing I like about FSX P3D is how easy it is to add or modify gauges. That's why I hold onto both XP11 and P3D.

But you can't really modify them in the VC with 3d gauge integration.  If we're talking about 2D integration both sims can easily do that.  Also for XP11 when using the RXP GNS you can easily mod any aircraft with default GNS 430 or 530 to fit the RXP version AND have working clickspots in the VC.  With P3D/FSX not really possible.
