September 20, 20196 yr In another thread there are recommendations for FltPlanGo. I'm finding this program incomprehensible. Is there any documentation on how to use this program? Tom
September 20, 20196 yr Hi Tom, I’m sure there must be a manual on their site - I’ll see if I can find it when I get home tonight... That said - I’ve been using it for years - where are you going astray ? Which tablet are you loading it on ? Assuming P3D... First - I would create a free FltPlan account on their website... You’ll need to define Pilot and Aircraft parameters... Might take you a few minutes to complete all the new federally mandated requirements on your aircraft to meet the new ICAO requirements - yep - lol - even to use it with a sim... You don’t have to change your aircraft to match the sim - one will do... Then download the connector program from the Fltplan site as well - it’s a small little program that facilitates the coms between PC and Tablet - basically transmits your GPS position from the sim over your WiFi... This program will need to be launched in order to work when you use it... Then download the appropriate app to your tablet from your respective App Store... My normal flow - is create a flight plan on Fltplan.com - then when the routing options appear - I choose a “Recently ATC Approved” route - if available - for an aircraft of a similar type... Save the flight plan... I copy the routing info to my clipboard - and paste it into Little NavMap so I can generate it in P3D and Garmin formats for use in the sim... Since I saved it on the FltPlan website - I can now open it on my tablet as well... It sounds complicated but after a couple times through it you can can do it all in a minute or two... Regards, Scott
September 20, 20196 yr Author OK, let's see 1. I install FltPlanGo on my iPad. Do you know how to delete the app from my PC? 2. I do have an account at Fltplan.com. I use it for Canadian charts. I tried creating a flight plan there before but gave up because of all the word not allowed needed to create an aircraft. Inasmuch as I have no idea what most of the equipment is, can I click on any of the ICAO required equipment and have it not affect my sim flight? 3. Where is the connector program? I can't find it on fltplan.com. I assume this program should be started on the PC after P3D and before the iPad app. 4. Am I correct that any DPs, STARs and approach plates that I want to see on the map must be downloaded and are not automatically available? 5. I file my flight plan without the DP and STAR. When they are assigned by ATC, I add them via the GTN750. Will the FltPlanGo flight plan reflect these changes? If yes, do the charts show on the map or just the waypoints? Tom Tom
September 22, 20196 yr Hi Tom, I'll try to help a bit... 1. Info for uninstalling store apps 2. Indeed, it can be a pain setting up aircraft profiles. On the upside, FltPLn Go will tell you when a config is incorrect and how to fix it. Once you've done one aircraft the rest are close to the same with config variations mostly focused on the avionics. 3. Yeah, they make that part really easy, huh? Downloads are here Note that the instructions are for FSX but it works the same for all versions of P3D. As I recollect, the FltPln Go GPS program installs directly into the flightsim folder. On a side note, I assign IP Addresses on my network for both the host device (flightsim computer) and the client device (phone, tablet pad, etc.). It all seems to work much better and faster that way. You assume correctly about starting sequence... start the sim and load the flight you'll be making, then out to the desktop to start the FltPlan Go GPS application, then on the left panel of your client device click on "External", then click on "FSX & Prepar3d". The GPS status box on that page should change from "disabled" to "connected". 4. I've not used SIDs and STARs with FltPln Go but you must download the approach plates. Which is why I do not use them in the client app... instead relying on the GTN to show them. That works best for me anyway... despite having my iPad right next to me it's still easier and safer to keep my focus on my computer monitor and receive the plate info from the GTN. 5. The flight plan may change when you load a procedure. FltPln Go gets its info from the sim thru Simconnect. The actual procedure is flown by the GTN controlling the AP. The route you fly will be shown on the client as you move along the map, but the route may diverge from the flight plan you create in FltPln Go once you load a procedure into the GTN. All of this depends on multiple databases that may or may not coincide on all devices/sources. Of course, there are very few procedures in the sim that are still current today... so start with that variable. I never really became comfortable using FltPlan Go on my PC for flight planning. I use LittleNavMap, and then just key in my route into my iPad. Takes just a couple minutes and allows me to "oversee" the route to make sure it is what I want. Of course, everyone does it their own way. Configuring and learning FltPlan Go can be a bit frustrating, but it is an invaluable tool... especially once airborne. As Scott noted, it is a top notch EFB... and is free (at least for now). HTH, Greg
September 22, 20196 yr I use FLTGO in real world and its awful, foreflight works with P3D i think Ron Hamilton "95% is half the truth, but most of it is lies, but if you read half of what is written, you'll be okay." __ Honey Boo Boo's Mom
September 23, 20196 yr Author Greg, Thanks for the help. Especially how to uninstall from my PC. Based on your response, FltPlan Go just doesn't seem worth the effort. I'll stick to the charts in the GTN750. If I want to see my plane on a map. I'll stick to FSWidgets iGMapHD which I already own. Tom Tom
