Which Add-On

Featured Replies

Which addon would the general flight sim user's recommend getting first; fs2Crew (new 747) or radar contact? Would it be better to wait for FSX to be released and purchase then? Finally, do they work together so long as your hardware can handle both? Thanks for any advice you can give.

Do you plan to buy FSX?

Yes I do plan on buying FSX.

I am not planning on getting fsx so i would not hesitate to get any add-ons for fs9, however you rplanning on getting fsx so i would wait if i were you.

FS2Crew (747) requires PMDG's 747-400 and simulates a cockpit environment with a pilot (you) and co-pilot (simulated) sharing crew coordination tasks during all phases of a flight. The interaction includes exchanges with simulated ground crews and flight attendants.Radar Contact 4.2 is a high end FS9 addon for ATC only and doesn't have anything at all to do with crew cockpit coordination activities. You will need to be familiar with detailed ATC procedure to become comfortable with RC. There are ample materials available to help you along the way.Provided you have a fairly substantial computer you should be able to run all of them simulatenously with FSX once compatible versions of each are released. The current versions will only work with FS9. The biggest problem would likely be conflicting key-combinations since each of the addons have quite a few unique keyboard commands.DougDell XPS Gen3 (3.6GHz/800FSB) | 2GB DDR SDRAM | 74GB SATA, 10k RPM (C: ) | 120GB SATA (D: ) | 256MB ATI Radeon X800 XT (Catalyst 6.5) | Audigy 2 ZS Sound | MS Force Feedback 2 | WindowsXP Pro (SP2) | DirectX 9.0c

IMO Fscrew would most likely become compatible (if not already) whereas Radar Contact would most likely require a whole new version. If it were me and I was waiting on FSX, I would wait on ANY add-on not 100% compatible at release time.Best,Randy J. Smith

FS2Crew 747 Edition already works with the Default 747 in FSX (you can even see the video in my forum).I do not anticipate any problems making it work with the PMDG 747 once the PMDG 747 is converted to work with FSX, but as always, until I actually have an FSX PMDG 747, I can't comment with 100 percent certainty.Radar Contact and FS2Crew do two very different things. It's not really a one or the other question. Cheers,Bryan

I would definately wait and see what will work with it and what won't and who will charge for updates.>Yes I do plan on buying FSX.

According to the developer in the Radar Contact forum here on Avsim, an FSX compatible update will be released shortly after FSX hits the shelves. Makes sense as FSUIPC will have a new version around the time of the FSX release and ATC hasn't changed much in FSX.Ian.
