Poor FPS Around KPDX

Recommended Posts

I know fps are not a reflection of performance etc etc, and smoothness is what we should be seeking, but when they drop to 8 and bounce back up to 20 that's a pretty good indication that things are not too hot! I am experiencing very poor performance when travelling south from W52 Goheen airstrip flying towards KPDX. Once I hit the city area, it really gets very stuttery, every time. Even with all sliders on low or normal, the issue remains. I know around the Seattle area such issues exist in FSX and I suspect this is similar due to the extra autogen buildings, but I'm surprised at how severe it is. It's a difficult pill to swollow, as I enjoy most of the time a steady 30fps in most scenarios due to my consrevative slider settings. Can anyone else confirm this is a problem in this area? Cheers fellas.

I have pretty much the same machine that you do, but don't have this problem. If you have an addon for KPDX you might try uninstalling and then re-install. I've a few that just didn't install properly. If I remember correctly ( which would be a miracle) there were elevation problems in FSX. If you have ORBX products maybe their tool would help. Good Luck.

Hi Bill, (Womack?) hmm, no other addons in the area. I think I'll check out duplicate afcads with My Traffic X (?) perhaps? Apart from that, unsure what to do.

I have a bit a better machine, but I have also low fps. But in my case I suspect KPDX (Flightbeam) + ORBX PNW + ORBX Portland Cityscape together with a PMDG bird is simply too much CPU load with a PMDG bird.

Yep! Orbx PNW and anything else is a killer.  I kept dying as I tried to fly the PMDG C-118 into this area while Orbx PNW and other Orbx systems were loaded.  Granted, my machine is rather weak, but after I dumped the Orbx products, everything runs smoothly.  I've invested a fair amount of $$$ in Orbx but I can't use them until I can justify a new machine.

I use Cityscape,PNW,Flightbeam KPDX,MCE NCA,FSLA320 and I do agree the area is a little hard but i maintain 25fps mostly

What kind of frames do you get when you turn your traffic to 0%? Just curious as MyTraffic models afaik are all old FSX models.

Hi Dave, the frames aren't an issue, it's the smoothness and the sudden drop in frames. I've just dropped GA AI to 10% with no airline traffic at all, fps are around 25-30 but then they drop to as low as 8 and it stutters around 15-20. Very odd. I found two identical bgl files for KPDX in My Traffic X scenery folder, I thought that may have had some influence but removing them has had no effect. The issue remains both in the Vertx Diamond and the A2A P180.  I think I will just have to accept the issue.

Hmm, ok what about other conflicting airport files? MyTraffic adds in thousands of its own airport files which of course will conflict with any other sceneries overtop ie FTX PNW. It might not be an exact cause, but it certainly will contribute to problems.

Hmm, OK. Could I 'switch off' the scenery folder of MTX, to see if that is the culprit, or will that somehow prevent P3D from starting properly as it looks for the missing files?

Hi Dave, I have just had a flight after removing all the files from the scenery folder in MTX. The problem has disappeared!

Hey that's great news Howard! Let's hope that was the full issue!

Those airport files were super generic ports from a much earlier version of Mytraffic and probably even from FS9.

I took out ORBX PNW.
