September 19, 200619 yr What do you think of the default zoom? I anticipate quite a debate much like with FS9. For me, I was surprised at how 60% looked right (I just have experience with the demo). The runway perspective when landing seems better. Please understand I have very limited real world flight experience. With FS9, I kept it at 75% but never really thought it looked right--seemed hard to line up with runway. What do you think?Randall

What do you>think?>>RandallA "real" perspective is given by a zoom 1.5 to 2.A default zoom of 0.60 was a forced choice for FSX, since they moved from default 2D to default 3d cockpit.A greater zoom factor would make gauges not visible in default straight view when in 3d cockpit (well, except for a/c's with HUD :) ).Reducing zoom factor has the side effect of increasing peripheral vision, thus making it more "realistic" (with regard to peripheral vision), even if less "realistic" (with regard to perspective). The perfect solution? Arrange 6 big monitors in a rectangle and use default zoom (0.60): you will have real perspective, visible gauges, and peripheral vision. :(Marco "Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".
September 19, 200619 yr Good points. I went to FS9 to try a 60% zoom and it didn't work well at all. Must be the way they've designed the 3d cockpit for FSX as you said. Randall

If you set your zoom to 0.90 in FS9, you should get the same default perspective you get in FSX. September 20, 200619 yr Well, see, that's why I come here--to get educated about such things. Thanks!Randall
September 20, 200619 yr It's important to note that we have a FSX.CFG entry for wide aspect ratio monitors which defaults to "false" assuming the user has a 4:3 monitor. Change this setting to "true" for what I think is a better view when using a 16:9 or wider display. We didn't have time to get this control in the UI, so you will have to modify the cfg to get it done. This is the entry in the cfg:"WideViewAspect=True"

September 21, 200619 yr Author Hmm - to me , the FS9 picture on the left above looks better than the FSx picture on the right -- except for the a/c panel of course.Barry
