Ridge soaring

Featured Replies

Just stumbled upon this video, thought you might like it:

It features some really cool ridge soaring. We should be finally able to do this in a simulator with great graphics if only they include a soar plane, but they almost have to with the wind simulation they've talked about and I cannot imagine that they won't.

Some things to look out for are the clouds, mountains and haze on the horizon in this video, they look really similar to the opening scene of the announcement trailer. That just shows how lifelike MSFS is going to be.

Omg that's amazing. Now I know what it's like to be an eagle....  Be so cool to fly gliders in FS2020!

In my gliding days I got the chance to fly the ridge a Ridge Soaring Pennsylvania a couple of time.

It is an amazing way to fly. Pilots have flown 1000km plus down the Appalachians in one day.

I only flew back and forward along a 25km stretch for a couple of hours or so.

I miss gliding and I am going to cry now😥

BTW you can already fly gliders in orographic lift in Prepar3D with active sky.

Its not bad. Better than the thermal lift which is word not allowed.

Why was this moved out of the FS2020 forum?  So gliders and their implementation in FS2020 are not to be discussed under any circumstances in the FS2020 forum???

Curious indeed! I wonder what that means?

I agree. The airflow over the relief is an important new feature of the sim, updraft, downdraft etc. Gliders and light aircraft could  immensely benefit from it.

I’ve never been interested by gliders in the older sims. FS20 could change that if we can get that feeling we see in this video. Thanks Raymond for sharing.

It is a video, that's why it was moved to the video forum. Discussion may certainly take place in the MSFS forum.
