MSFS will be fully functionnal on day one for Cockpit Builders

... provided the most basic SDK is shipped with the release.

By most basic SDK I mean a way to expose the EYEPOINT as "setable" (3 dimensionnal GPS coordinates LAT LON ALT and 3 axis viewpoint tilt movement).

I have yet to read a topic on this very exciting subject (correct me if I'm wrong and it's been already discussed), but any cockpit builder will be able to benefits from MSFS visuals on release.
Wait, what ? What about the waiting of all the addons to get a MSFS version ? Could be years away !
Well, basically I plan to instantly switch to MSFS on release day in my home cockpit and benefit from the new visuals.

How ? Simple : buy a dedicated PC, install MSFS on it, plug the screen(s) dedicated to outside view on this PC, and then have a program send the eyepoint coordinates to MSFS from my existing P3D setup. If does not exists on release, code it in C# with the SDK, a few hours work.

No need to change any parameter or licence to your home cockpit, no reinstall, no drivers waiting, no software update, no bug-hunting, just a new PC and you are all set. Your sim will still run on P3D which is absolutely fine and great, but your external visuals will be MSFS. Weather sync might be the only drawback, but with real world weather on both sims it might be very acceptable compromise.

Maybe MS/Asobo can ship a simple P3D plugin for synchronising the view with MSFS, please do it during alpha beta testing so we can give you feedback on this use case !

Any home cockpit builder here to discuss plans about this ?

I think PSX 747 users have this already for FSX.

I would like undockable Windows for example the G3000.

I think, it is not a good idea. You got MSFS visual, but weather, aerodynamic and aircraft flying still will be poor, like on P3D and will not correspond what you see.

So, basically use MSFS the way we can use Google Earth today with FSX/P3D? Also if both P3D and MSFS are using real world weather, then the weather depictions should not be too much different from each other. Hopefully the geolocations coming from P3D work well enough in MSFS, if they are slightly off then you'll end up with some odd results. Also, if there are are differences in mesh or other collision objects you might get some surprises. There's also the question of whether P3D AI traffic could sync with MSFS etc.

They will correspond, you send the exact position view you would see on P3D, I don't get what you are saying. Just the weather but as stated, with real weather you will get similar conditions. You understand all items are physically geolocalised, whatever the sim is ? A runway will be located at same place on every sim.

I'm sorry why is flying "poor" in P3D or FSX or Xplane for that matter. So tell me, what are you flying nowadays ?

Anyway this is not the point, the point here is to get cockpit builder aware that they might be able to use MSFS right at release. And that's cool. And I'll try it.

Exactly yes. I would say better like some sim uses P3D as visual only also (Aerowinx 747 sim). Traffic could be on MSFS, it just won't be displayed on a P3D TCAS if used, not really a problem.

That is the very mechanism of https://www.wideview.it/ so this is not "insane" at all.

I'm heavily thinking about this because the alternative will be a complete re-setup of the cockpit, down every switch, a long waiting for software updates, and inevitably : major investment in new licences to get software usable for MSFS (think repurchase). For folks using SimAvionics or Prosim software (google it) it will clearly be a new licence to be issued, or a poorly discounted one for previous user. I use Flight1Tech Garmin 1000 Pro simulator with a real G1000 hardware, here I can also expect a full repurchase of the updated software.

Also a lot of stuff works on FSUIPC tech nowadays in home cockpits, down to SIOC programs etc. The work to update is so HUGE, the above solution for an immediate update is so elegant.

Didn't they say that they are building a full cockpit over at Asobo HQ and that SimConnect will still be a thing only with added variables to it? That might get you up and running sooner than you think or am I wrong? For as far as I know the biggest issue would be the possible lack of support for multiple screens upon release.

I did not know about a full cockpit at Asobo HQ, would be cool ! Lack of multi screen upon release should not be a problem for external view only, I still use a Matrox which is detected as one screen but if I'm not wrong Nvidia surround behave the same so no multiscreen support needed.

Veto.  Nvidia Surround has a big distortion. Multiscreen support is needed.

They only said that multi-viewpoint rendering wouldnt be supported at launch, not that multiple screens wouldn't be. And if they have VR at launch then multi-viewpoint rendering will be included.

thats not entirely true, well not for me anyway, agreed its very noticeable when you set the wrong zoom level (or use the default) v your actual field of view/distance from screen. There is a formula to get this part right but it does mean you zoom in more which of course reduces the horrible stretch effect

LM provided a shader to correct the distortion also

I use a large 3 projectors view without multiscreen (recognized as one screen only by Windows), sure a distorted on the edges, but with a curved screen it does not matter much.
Also I would say if I had to use 3 different views on the same P3D instance I don't think performances would be acceptable, but with one large view it is ok.
So one large view on MSFS should be the same, really looking forward to it.

Only view and position of aircraft will correspond, nothing more. Still only poor "one point" flight dynamic and very poor weather simulation. Real world weather i P3D is much weaker than in FS2020 will be and not correspond. Simply a bad idea 🙂
