[Resolved] Missing add-ons.cfg on first startup

Featured Replies

Hi

I took advantage of the Black Friday off and bought the Pro edition.

Every time I run the program (fresh install) I get a message that C:\Users\Simon\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4\add-ons.cfg is missing. When I browse for that file manually it is indeed missing, but I'm not sure why. I've other newly installed add-ons installed, like many Orbx products, and when I run the sim it always asks if i want to enable those.

Any thoughts? 🙂

Hi Simon,

Strange, the roaming addons.cfg is always created by default. P3D uses 2 addons.cfg files to activate addons, one is inside the programdata folder, and the other via the roaming folders. So your others addons must be using the Programdata\ file.

Since I have to check for both files, I suggest you create a dummy addon.cfg file to avoid the warning.

Thanks Simbol

Oddly I started up the sim again after I wrote this post and it created the required add-ons.cfg and asked if I wanted to activate the AI lights add-on. I clicked yes, closed the sim and checked the contents of the new add-ons.cfg and it's just AI lights add-on referenced in there, so I guess that you're right and the Orbx stuff must be referenced in the \Programdata one.

What I'm curious about is how did the sim know to add that entry into the add-ons.cfg file? Surely your installer would've done that so the Sim knows about the add-on, not the other way around?

Cheers

P3D create this automatically for each addon package installed using the add-on.xml method as per SDK guidelines.

My installer doesn't touch these or any files inside your P3D ecosystem in order to avoid any problems or incompatibility issues with P3D or other products. Instead I prefer P3D detecting it and you enabling it (as you just did) since this is what LM engineers advise and detail via their documentation.

This is why now the file exists in your system, P3D built it. Maybe you just installed the first full P3D SDK compliant application in your sim 😉.

Glad everything is working. And thanks for purchasing my product.

Perfect, thanks for your help Simbol.

Not had time to test it yet. Putting the Christmas decorations up with the wife!

I'll reinstall all the AIM OCI AI now...

Thanks again

Great product! I bought it a week ago, and it greatly improves my aircraft lighting!

Entries in the add-on.cfg in the %APPDATA% folder are created automatically by the simulator, for each add-on that use the add-on.xml method and has its add-on.xml file placed in Documents\Prepar3d v4 Add-ons and you replied with an YES to the question if you wanted to reactivate it.

This feature is called "Auto-discovery", and its purpose is to allow you to get all your previous add-on re-enabled in the simulator, even after a clean uninstall of the sim, which means both uninstalling and manually removing the various sim preference folders in %APPDATA%\Lockheed Martin, %LOCALAPPDATA%\Lockheed Martin and %PROGRAMDATA%\Lockheed Martin or starting the "Delete Generated Files" option, which does the same.

You'll be happy to know that activating AI Lights Reborn Professional Edition is like installing Christmas lights for your flight simulator
