December 6, 20196 yr The other day a young avsim member asked if any of us lose proficiency from being absent from flying a particular aircraft [or something like that, i am paraphrasing] My answer is yes. Today I hauled out the C208 that I have not flown in maybe a year. Had to use the checklist to get started [I know, I always need to use a checklist] Anyhow left Pensacola FL in the rain and headed over to Gulfport MS; overcast at 3500. Good flight with v-speeds handy, and landed on rw14. But was I completely comfortable having not flown this one in a long time? Not 100% as I was not managing the throttle and prop as well as I should have. It may seem crazy but I tend to plan a flight from a nearby airport that is in the news. Earthquake, huge fire, 18 car pile-up somewhere, or a shooting and death as was the case in Pensacola today. Probably no one else does this. So there are so many airports, and so little time. At 84 I'll keep finding new ones to explore as today with Pensacola and Gulfport, my first time at these 2! Have a good weekend guys! Lennie, Henderson, North Carolina. December 7, 20196 yr Moderator You know you've got a good point. With FS2004 and FSX having "only" 24 thousand airports that is too many to explore in one lifetime... MSFS having over 44 thousand is way over the top! Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
December 7, 20196 yr I flew to every airport in the state I live in. That was a fun time. I have also flown around the world in a variety of aircraft (in the simulator). There are many ways to make your experience more exciting and fun. Thank you.
