LEt's see.... 1) I specialized in CPU architecture and design at GATech where I designed a RISC CPU in my Junior year.2) I was following the Athlon64 design a good 2 years before they hit the market.3) I was a winner of a contest (Area64 contest for any who care to know) that got me a free trip to SanFran for the Athlon64 release event where I was handed an Athlon 64 FX-51, RAM and MB.. so I'm pretty much one of the first people worldwide to have a 64 bit x86 CPU in their hands. They also gave us a (beta) copy of XP64 bit Edition, so I've had a little experience with running 64 bit Windows....As other posters said, not cool coming in here saying "This is the rig to buy" right now when people can't get the thing to run decently on their high end machines, especially when 1/2 the information in the list is BLATENTLY wrong or misleading. It's the sort of information that makes me cring in pain every time I walk through the computer section of Best Buy and hear their sales droid spout a bunch of incorrect, incoherent jibberish at the customers and the customers believe it all. Most often than not I jump in and dress the sales person down and end up helping the customer myself and they ALL appreciate me doing it.--2002cbr600f4i

Maybe some were, I don't know. All I saw was a very common misinformation regarding 32/64 bit computing which was not really corrected by the replies so far. So I tried to do better.Don't like it? Does anybody in here really>thing Vista is going be the save all OS. >>No, but I do believe that DX10 will have a great effect on gaming, maybe not FSX, but in the long run. So far the only way to use DX10 is with Vista.Mike T, spot on commentary, 4 gig is overkill just for FS in a 32 bit environment and the physics cards are worthless at this point, they actually bring down performance in some games.Right now, if you have money to burn and want to run FSX , get the best core2 you can afford (6800) and the nVidia 7950 along with 2 gig high end DDR and a hefty PS and go fly.Regards, MichaelKDFW

"Mike T, spot on commentary, 4 gig is overkill just for FS in a 32 bit environment..." Especially since WinXP with SP2 won't recognize more that 3GB of physical memory. To use 4GB you'd still have to be at SP1.Doug

Does anybody in here really thing Vista is going be the save all OS.Not right away. That's why I believe I'll probably let other folks be paying beta testers when Vista is (finally) released. I'll have to see some HUGE performance gains in FS in Vista (which I don't believe we'll see) to jump on the new OS at release date.At least one of the OP's recommendations is correct... his Keyboard/Mouse solution is OK.Greg

While I understand the confusion behind information being fact or "piffle" I do wish to point out that I stated this information was based on things I read from various Microsoft Websites and well known Flight Simulation magazines. If members feel the information to be incorrect, then obviously I will stand corrected on the information that is provided to correct my input, however please REFRAIN from passing off direct or indirect insults towards me.QOUTE - mr perry, nothing youve said is true, including vista being 64 bit, FSX supporting 64 bit, and FSX supporting the physics accelerator - QOUTEAs it is well known at this point, both FSX, and Vista are fairly new in the world and even the developers of these programs arn't sure what they want to do with these programs as I have seen various information change since August. I have only provided information on what I have seen so far from reputable palces, if it is incorrect, then it is.The ONLY fact that you need to take into serious consideration is to first have a very powerful and fast Dual Core Processor, a very BIG graphics card, as much RAM as possible and enough space on your Hard Drive to allow your Virtual Memory to adjust accordingly to the load FSX will lay down.As for the Physics Accelerator, I have personally witnessed a fair size improvement in both Frame Rates and in FS Effects. What you believe about this card is your belief, but I have seen the difference and fully feel that it will improve FSX then without the card

Well, I guess I agree with you pretty much. As a matter of fact, I ordered the system below about 3 weeks ago, and it's going to be delivered tomorrow...just in time for me to get it ready for the 17th when I pick up my copy of FSX.Here it is-222-3579 1 Intel 2 Duo Processor E6700 (2.66GHz,1066FSB) with 4MB cache 311-5122 1 4GB DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz 320-4710 1 20 in (20 in viewable) 2007WFPWide Aspect Digital Flat PanelDisplay 320-4927 1 1GB NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GX2 Dual-GPU Graphics Card 341-2099 1 500GB Serial ATA II Hard Drive(7200RPM) 341-3867 1 Dell 13 in 1 Media Card Reader 341-3866 1 3.5in Floppy Drive 420-5586 1 Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005,English for Dimension XPS 600 313-7222 1 Dell Application Back-up CD, Factory Install 420-5460 1 Complimentary courses: Look for EU icon 420-4927 1 Windows Media Player 10 420-5476 1 Dell Direct Download 420-5924 1 Icon Consolidation Application 420-5769 1 Internet Search and Portal 412-0688 1 Image Restore 412-0911 1 Dell Support 463-2282 1 Dell Owners Manual installed on your system, click on icon after system set-up to access 313-3607 1 No modem requested for Dell Dimension 412-0914 1 Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0 313-4424 1 48X Combo and 16X DVD+/-RW 420-5780 1 Sonic Cineplayer 420-5790 1 Roxio Creator Basic/MyDVD Basic 313-4426 1 X-Fi PCI Sound Card 313-4062 1 AS501 10W Flat Panel Stereo Speakers for 1704, 1905,2001FPFlat Panels 420-5639 1 Trend Micro PC-cillin InternetSecurity, English, 15-Month Subscription 420-3224 1 Broadband Icon for Inspiron 950-3338 1 2 Year Limited Warranty 960-8680 1 Warranty Support,Initial Year 902-0931 1 Warranty Support,1 Year Extended 984-9298 1 Dell Hardware Warranty PlusOnsite Service, Initial Year 980-1820 1 Type 3- Third Party At Home Service, 24x7 Technical Support, Initial Year 984-9299 1 Dell Hardware Warranty PlusOnsite Service, Extended Year 902-8771 1 Type 3- Third Party At Home Service, 24x7 Technical Support, 1 Year Extended 465-4663 1 Windows Vista Capableps. all this paid-but-can't-eat hype just to smuggle through that useless floppy drive--bad, bad dell!:-lol

Some good recommendations here.:)

It's not that your information isn't SOMEWHAT correct, it's just that you have the details wrong...Vista being 64 bit - Yes, there is a 64 bit VERSION you can buy, but most people are going to get the normal 32 bit version... just like there's XP x64 Edition... Nobody really uses the 64 bit versions right now because older programs that have some 16 bit installers or that do stuff that adds things into the explorer shell fail miserably if they'll even install at all. Some of the directory structures are also different and that can cause issues when installing applications. There's also very few applications compiled for native 64 bit mode, so there's not a lot of usefulness in running the 64 bit versions right now. Unless you're doing video editing, or pushing massive amounts of data (I'm sorry, gaming and Flight sim don't qualify, I'm talking databases here) that eat 4+ GB RAM, you don't need the 64 bit edition.FSX being a 64 bit program - No, it most certainly is NOT a 64 bit application. It may RUN on a 64 bit version of XP or Vista, but it is only compiled as a 32 bit application (the ACES team has posted about this.) When running on a 64 bit OS, it is STILL a 32 bit application, running via a 32 bit emulation layer in the OS (just like how you can run 16 bit Windows apps on 32bit XP).Getting better performance using the PhysX card - Sorry, I gotta call BS on this one for 2 reasons: 1) That card requires you to use THEIR API to THEIR physics engine to utilize the card for any calculations. If you don't use their API, the card does nothing and sits idle. 2) ACES developers said point blank that they did NOT include support/code for this card. And as others have pointed out, in most cases that we've seen so far in other games, using the PhysX card actually SLOWS DOWN the game because they're using it to add more objects in the scene which the GPU then has to render. I'm not saying the card isn't a great idea... I'm just saying it's not going to do anything for Flight Sim X and I'd love to see you prove me wrong (No, seriously, I WOULD love to be proved wrong on this because it would mean there's hope and that the PhysX card *IS* worth buying!)--2002cbr600f4i
