Gaming Headsets with FS2Crew

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am looking at getting a gaming headset, mainly to reduce noise when I want to turn the volume up at home.  I notice that the advice for FS2Crew is to use a USB device, but I have noticed that there are very few actual gaming headsets that have USB connections.  I am actually looking at a wireless headset, the Sennheiser GSP370, and that comes with a USB dongle for connection to the PC.  How would this headset go with FS2Crew?  If I was to go with another gaming headset that had jack input only, would that preclude the use of FS2Crew with that headset?

Luckily I have just discovered that the wired headset I was also looking at, the GSP550, actually comes with a jack connection and a USB connection... Phew.

Any advice on the matter would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Hi,

I recommend not going with a wireless headset.  They are prone to audio drops.

For me, I use the basic Microsoft USB wired headset.  I paid around $20.

In my view, expensive headsets offer no real value; and in fact, they can cause more problems.

Just my two cents.

Thanks Bryan,

I have been watching a number of reviews today, and actually the guy who originally hyped up the Sennheiser GSP370 on youtube actually said dropouts were an issue with that headset when he actually tested it out for a while and did a proper review.  Poor mic quality was also an issue.  I am now looking at one called the Hyper X cloud revolver S.  It is wired, has a USB input good microphone etc.  I have a cheap headset right now, a single earpiece one with a mic that I got for about $30, but this new headset will be used for a lot of gaming and flying, and will basically be totally replacing my speakers at certain times, so I want the sound quality to be good.

Cheers,

I use a Sennheiser PC360 since one year after it's predecessor lasted almost 9 years. It's very reliable. I'm using FS2Crew since day one for a long time ago and never had a problem with MIC quality. But I have the non USB version, because that keeps me more flexible, e.g. occasionally just plug in the Microphone jack and keep the aircraft sounds from speakers.

Thanks Mike,

So FS2Crew works OK when you have the headset plugged in via the jack?  Is that plugged straight in to your PC, or plugged in to your speakers.  I have Logitech speakers, and they have a socket to plug in a headset.

I am looking for a fairly versatile headset, because I want to be able to use it with my Oculus Rift S too, and all gaming when the need arises.  I am now looking at the Hyper X Cloud Revolver X because it has 7.1 surround sound, a jack or USB connection option (due to the included sound driver which is USB, then the headset jack plugs in to that), and importantly it has been confirmed online to fit over the Rift S headset very well.

Cheers,

Hi Scott,

yes, works perfectly with FS2Crew and/or Vatsim plugged in via Jack. No matter of I plug in directly via the jack to my Laptop or external soundcard (Soundblaster Play3) on my Desktop PC.

I have chosen the Sennheiser because it not that much shielded as some dedicated Gaming headsets. With a combo audio adapter I can even use it with a Smartphone or IPad, so it is quite versatile.
