February 24, 20206 yr I use prefixes to order my scenery in XPlane ie”a” for airports etc This works well but my only problem is with Orbx scenery where this system means that FTX Central cannot see Orbx files properly for updates In fact I only use “a” for Orbx airports and “v” for everything else Orbx(Orbx,s own internal ordering system seems to sort out all the Orbx mesh, orthos into the right order) Means I can fly without to much hassle and everything stays in the right order but I have to keep an eye out for Orbx updates Am I missing something? Anything else I could try? xxd09
February 24, 20206 yr Hi, using alphabetic prefixes for scenery ordering is an archaic and error-prone way of organizing your scenery. You have a file called scenery_packs.ini in your Custom Scenery folder. Open it with any text editor and move the scenery entries around as you see fit. X-Plane honours this order and keeps it between updates as well. If you add a new scenery, it automatically gets added "to the top" of this file. You may then move it into the correct order as you see fit. You can even disable sceneries (temporarily) if you add a _DISABLED right after the SCENERY_PACK - that way X-Plane will simply not load that scenery. Cheers, Jan

That is highly recommended for the outdated Aerosoft sceneries that come with the sim. Not sure if they come with every version though. - Currently giving X-Plane 12.10 a spin on Shadow PC. 10 years with X-Plane now, since 10.20
February 24, 20206 yr Author Thanks for that info Janov Does that mean that if I now go into my Scenery ini file(which is currently now in the right order) and remove all the prefixes that the ini file sceneries will stay in place? Can I also then remove prefixes from my Custom Scenery file without then causing changes in the ini file? xxd09 Edited February 24, 20206 yr by xxd09 Spelling
February 24, 20206 yr If the order is already correct, you must remove the prefixes from the names (airports, etc.) in the scenery_pack.ini file, as well as the prefixes in the names of the folders of the scenery (airports, etc.). Otherwise it will become a mess again. Edited February 24, 20206 yr by Bulva

X-Plane will have built the .ini from what it reads in the directory. Now you may edit the .ini - unless you rename the folders again, the .ini will stay the same. - Currently giving X-Plane 12.10 a spin on Shadow PC. 10 years with X-Plane now, since 10.20

But then it will again have a mess in the scenery_packs.ini file. Since he wrote that he already has a good order in scenery_packs.ini, it's a shame he destroyed it. Running XP will order alphabetically, not wisely. 😉
February 25, 20206 yr I was having fits applying logic to this problem. Tried the 'Organizer' software when it was freeware - nothing. When it became payware ($12.50 at .org,) I took the plunge. Every once in a while I take a look at my 'scenery_pack.ini' and can't believe how it's arranged but it's worked flawlessly since install.
March 17, 20206 yr Author Bulva-followed your advice and all good FTX Central seeing all my Orbx scenery-updates will be OK Orbx in order and Thomas Rasmussen,s method for all other scenery Thanks again xxd09 Edited March 17, 20206 yr by xxd09 Spelling
