V5: FFTF not working any more? (no effect)

Featured Replies

Has anyone played with FFTF value already? Since I had my FFTF set to 0.05 in v4.5, my FPS measurements were kind "off".

When I removed the FFTF value, I am seeing big FPS differences in favor of v5.

However, "forgetting" to remove the FFTF value in v4.5, actually my v4.5 beats v5, at least in ORBX LOWI static.

Well, fine, let's give v5 FFTF 0.05. However... no difference?

And... I am seeing blurry textures in v5 (clean sim, without any addons). They load slow, as in if I fly low, a simple Mooney at top speed, after a while, textures below aircraft are blurry. They need significant time to load until sharp. Pausing the sim doesn't help. This is with unlimited FPS.

I cannot help but to think that v5 leverages FFTF differently, and/or doesn't use it any more, but the sim at least leverages something differently, putting more CPU resources into rendering. Something that you can leverage in v4.5 with the FFTF value. And 0.05 actually works just fine for me.

Are you sure FFTF Dynamic has been already updated to work with the new P3Dv5?.

I don't think it's been updated.  But I don't believe OP is mentioning using the tool.  I think it's just adding the value directly into the cfg file.

Looks to me as it does behave as before. in 4.5+ setting 'unlimited' versus one notch down would cause the big FPS impact from the FFTF value because of 'unlimited' FPS. In V5, I do not observe this behavior. ( Irrespective of the FFTF Dynamic tool).

EDIT: Not true. I Install REX Clouds and, at FSDT KORD and AIMG traffic,  get 17FPS with limited 60 and 25FPS with unlimited. This is no better the V4.5

I am sure affinity tool is not needed with V5 - LM changed the code; some of these utilities were created to fix some of the issues of legacy code - say V3/V4.  Things change and at times old utilities may not be needed (that is progress).

I do not have V5 - so I can't say yet.  I hope I do not have to use FFTF for V5 (when I get it).

Yes, I am talking about the fixed value in the prepar3d.cfg (v4.5). Never bought that tool, as 0.05 worked quite well for me.

The reason why I was using FFTF was, indeed, the FPS drop while locking frames. So you would have higher base-FPS, but being locked, no cause the sim to have problems loading textures. Of course, dipping below locked could then cause problems, but it's all about balance.

However it's not always the same. Sometimes there is no drop, for some reason. For instance, ORBX LOWI with Mooney, no matter what setting, 51fps, both sims.

However, LOWW + FSL, without FFTF locked at 120fps, produces 23fps. Unlocked 30. FFTF 0.05 and locked at 120 - like 29 or about.

So right now, I can't say for sure what v5 will produce at LOWW with FSL, but I honestly hope more than 30.
