October 16, 200619 yr Ok, this is just my two-cents, but for those having difficulties with frames, just turn down the special effects slide to medium or low. This little change should allow you to run FSX at about 15-20 FPS with all the other sliders maxed. Trust me, FSX was well worth the wait and you'll love it once you make this small change!BillASUS M2N32-SLI DeluxeAMD FX62Nvidia 7600 GT4G RamWin XP and Vista RC1

October 16, 200619 yr really?? then i have a different sim. did not change anything for me.as a matter of fact, every slider to the left, sitting on the ground (KDAL/CRJ 700) all i get is 10 fps (that means that not even the airport terminal is showing!!). every slider maxed out, i get 5 fps.AMD 3500+, 7800GT, 2GB ram... :(regards, Denis Kosbeck KPHX

October 16, 200619 yr Not that I want the FPS to run and run more than it has, but I find that getting FPS where they are needed is a good way to go...FSX gives you the ability to save graphical settings!:Example:1. If I am flying some heavey IFR at night. I previously saved settings to give me "bloom" (I like it on the runway lights,) But, no autogen and minimal elevation data and texture rez.2. I want to fly a chopper around the Grand Canyon by day.I get rid of "bloom" turn off the aircraft settings (unless you want to see yourself flying, it's not needed,) and put all the scenery eye-candy as far up as I can!Personal side notes:A - I don't seem to get ANY frame drop between sparse AutoGen, and vert dense! ....very odd!B - I can fly all the missions at 20fps, but hardly get about 7 when at heathrow! ...maybe the missions have saved settings inside them, OR the UK AutoGen is just unoptimised.Rob
October 16, 200619 yr Hey Denis,I know this 'goes against the grain' as such, but worth a try at least if you've not already...Taget Frame Rate - take the slider to 'unlimited'.I haven't noticed anything missing as such if you're flying light stuff. Haven't tried heavies at 'heavy' airports though. Got FS9 to do that, for now anyway....;-)It absolutely transformed my FPS and fluidity. Was experiencing similar rates. My cards not as good as yours either...Might help ya a bit ?RegardsEd
October 16, 200619 yr Hi Rob,Have to say the one area of FSX that dissapoints me is London, which is frustrating when you live in the UK.... Just a complete mess of the Thames area. Heathrow - don't / won't bother. I figure will just have to wait for UK addons to appear. Shame really that someone missed these obvious errors in quality checking.Other than that - it's still a great sim.RgsEd
October 16, 200619 yr Author Those frame rates can not be normal (at all sliders full to the left). At full left, even a 1ghz system supposed to have some frame rates. Hence the minimum system requirement.
October 16, 200619 yr "A - I don't seem to get ANY frame drop between sparse AutoGen, and vert dense! ....very odd!" This one doesnt make any sense at all. Are you absolutely sure?Autogen is the number one fraem rate killer in this sim. I dont really believe that statement.Hornit

Are you absolutely>sure?>Autogen is the number one fraem rate killer in this sim. I>dont really believe that statement.>>Hornit>ok... there is a small drop, but only from say 13 to 10fps
October 17, 200619 yr Ahh 10 fps, mighty fine flyin that must be! You must also be using the autogen texture and description file tweaks? Just curious. Anything under 20 is unnaceptable to me. I can get more than that but it requires some serious knowledge and tweaking to do it. Would be nice to have a flight sim for a change that worked right out of the box for most of us.Hornit
October 17, 200619 yr Me either. With no autogen at all, FSX is happy to report 24fps (I locked it at 24). As soon as I turn autogen to sparse, it dropped to 10. Turn it all the way to the right, it reports 9fps. The drop from sparse setting to max setting is only about 1 frame, ok sometime 2.BTW. This only seems to be on low elevation terrain. Flying around KASE, with all the trees on the mountains, frame rate is not affected, getting 24fps. At the moment, I have no idea why it behaves this way.
