April 21, 20206 yr Hello, I hope that I chose the right forum, if not, please let me know. I am a german journalist currently realizing a documentary about the Concorde for the french-german public broadcaster ARTE. In this documentary the accident will of course also be a subject. We are going to do an re-enactment in a cockpit in a museum with actors and am looking for a possibility to show the start of the plane the day it crashed via flight simulator to mix it with the reenactment. As you see - I am not an expert in flight simulators, but I hope that maybe some of you can help me? Is there anybody who has the Concorde in his simulator and who could help me out? Best, Angela
April 21, 20206 yr WELCOME to AVSIM! Numerous members here have a Concorde in their flightsim which is more up to date (better graphics etc.) than the link below, however, here's an old re-enactment which may serve the purpose if you contact the creator. It does seem to be quite well done in my opinion https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URhpktdvgNA Mark Robinson Part-time Ferroequinologist Author of FLIGHT: A near-future short story (ebook available on amazon) I made the baby cry - A2A Simulations L-049 Constellation Sky Simulations MD-11 V2.2 Pilot. April 21, 20206 yr If you want to know anything about the Concorde you should contact Ray Proudfoot(https://www.avsim.com/profile/100288-ray-proudfoot/). He's an expert on his iconic plane. April 21, 20206 yr Moderator @rotavo. Hello Angela. That day remains one of deep sadness for me. My video creating skills are zero but I would agree with Mark that the video he linked to is an accurate enough depiction of the accident. Should you want any questions answering I’ll do my best but of course there is a wealth of information on the web regarding this accident. The interview given by John Hutchinson - a former BA Concorde pilot - is quite revealing about some of the non-standard procedures used by the AF crew on that day. Use what you consider appropriate but you can trust what he says. I don’t know if you’re aware of this but the simulator used by British Airways Concorde pilots is now located at Brooklands Museum, south of London and not far from Heathrow. For total accuracy you may wish to contact them. It’s the only one in the world now. Closed now of course but once the pandemic is over it might be worth contacting them. https://www.brooklandsmuseum.com/concorde/concorde-events/fly-the-simulator Edited April 21, 20206 yr by Ray Proudfoot Additional info Ray (Cheshire, England). April 21, 20206 yr @Ray Proudfoot If I understand correctly, I think Angela is looking for some external shots of Concorde from the sim to mix into the footage that her production company will record with the actors in the cockpit at the aviation museum. So do you have Air France's livery for your Concorde, Taxi2Gate's LFPG and FRAPS / Bandicam? Are you willing to record the take-off roll and recreate the pilots' inputs until UFIT? I hope that ARTE spend no longer than 10 minutes of a 1-hour program looking into AF4590. Receipt of take-off clearance to UFIT was no more than 2 minutes 50 seconds. Concorde has so much more to discuss than that one tragic flight. We've already had several 'Air Crash Investigation' style programs in various languages and with different broadcasters. I hope they interview Béatrice Vialle, one of only 2 women to pilot Concorde, especially in an era where female pilots were an extremely rare sight. I hope they look into the incredible technological development that was required, combining the resources of 2 countries' aviation expertise, yet only managed to sell 14 airframes despite an original order book of 62. I also hope they ask the question as to why we've as a species have accepted to go backwards technologically-speaking. Nearly 20 years after the final flight, despite numerous design concepts and even prototypes of supersonic Very Light Jets, we are no closer to seeing a supersonic aeroplane in the skies. I have the AF livery and T2G’s LFPG. But I don’t have either FRAPS or Bandicam and have never used either. To recreate the baggage loading and fuel load / balance would not be easy. It might not even be possible to recreate that loading in the sim. Neither would simulating an engine out just before Vr. It’s not a situation I have ever tried to simulate and would require a lot of practice. However, there may be someone in the FS Labs Concorde forum who would be willing and has the skills to record it. I can point Angela there if she wants to proceed along the lines you suggest. Concorde was a technological marvel especially when you consider the language differences and the fact that the French measured everything in metric whereas the British used imperial. Even the Americans tried and failed. Says a lot for the ingenuity of the engineers back then. Ray (Cheshire, England).
