GTN 750 AIRAC information

Featured Replies

Hello all, I just bought the GTN 750 and I realized its AIRAC information is old (looks like from 2019) so I would like to know how to update it, I was looking at the Navigraph database but there's no navdata for this addon.

Regards.

The database comes from the Garmin trainer, and is only available from Garmin. The database is in a proprietary  and encrypted format. No third party companies like Navigraph have the ability to update it. Garmin does update the trainer every so often, and that is the only way to get newer AIRAC.

Even so, when the trainer does get updated, the included database will always be at least a few months old.

And important to add here that when Garmin updates the GTN trainer, which has been approximately once a year, Reality XP is close behind with a new release to licensed users to support that updated Garmin Trainer. Quick support has so far given us the updated database that typically comes with the updated trainer.

You selected the right simulator GTN from the right developer.

I’m planning to buy RXP GTN 750, what’s hindering me is the AIRAC update. Currently, upon purchase its loaded with AIRAC 1909 according to the website. I don’t want to be stuck in the same AIRAC for years and I heard updating through Garmin is super expensive. I don’t mind it being behind a few months. What I understood in your post is that it updates AIRAC at least once a year? Is this for free? How many times has the AIRAC been updated since you bought the RXP GTN 750?

There are no guarantees here... Garmin releases a new GTN Trainer whenever they have something new added to the real world GTN. This is meant for RW GTN owners, to practice procedures on their PC.  If Garmin has nothing new to add.. the Trainer will likely not be updated. That has been true for the GNS Trainer for some time. (!)

So, if you are expecting regular updates, this is not a good choice for you.

Having said that, there are copies of expired navdata being handed around by RW GTN owners, much like expired paper nav charts.. so if you find a source, you can get the odd update that way.

All I can say here is that I have never been stuck on the same navigation database for years.  Like I stated in my earlier message, at minimum I have seen the database updated in new releases by Garmin of its trainers.  I suggest you do a bit more sifting through the many topics here to gain a more comfortable feeling about it.

@akopa20 Hi, you might want to further read the dedicated discussion about DB updates, starting with the recommended posts:

I'm considering buying the RXP GTN 750, but am unclear about how extensive the worldwide coverage of the included map database is.  Is it only for the US?  And if so, are maps of other parts of the world downloadable from Garmin or AIRAC (whoever they may be)?  Currency isn't an issue for me, as I'll be using the 750 simply for training.

Suggest you download the Garmin GTN Trainer, it is free, and is the engine that powers the GTN gauge.  Check out the maps and see if you like it.  The "map" is worldwide, the Airport Charts are North America only.

Bert

Good advice.  Will check out the trainer.  Thanks.
