April 29, 20206 yr Few months ago I played XP11 and I had a lot of fun. I even purchased A320 from FF. I learned basics of this plane, could make number of routes. However it started to become overwhelming when I wanted to plan longer routes, use some AI traffic control or at least to know where to move on the airport. Just for an immersion. It was quite irritating to had to install separate mods for each of those things or looking for a YT tutorials. I wonder if FSX is more friendly for a new player? I heard it has missions and flying school or stuff like atc which guides you with departures and arrivals or choosing proper runway. I don’t mind getting deep, learning the game but would be great if someone would show it to you. also is it good idea to buy FSX-SE now? New Microsoft FS is still few months before launching so why not to train and get used to flying.
April 29, 20206 yr All of the mainstream sims--Prepar3D, FSX, XPlane--are basic platforms that are greatly enhanced in nearly every respect by extensive use of add-ons. And with those add-ons comes complexity. It's the nature of the hobby. FSX-SE is fairly cheap, especially if you catch it on sale at Steam. But when you start adding in a bunch of add-on software, it can quickly become a sizeable investment. FSX is a 14-year-old 32-bit platform. It still works, but it has been left behind w/r/t continued development of the "ecosystem", and its future is clearly limited when compared to the ongoing progress of P3D & XPlane, and the forthcoming emergence of the new MSFS. So if you can buy it and be happy without a lot of enhancements, it might be worth it to you. If not, probably a better call to skip it and go with the current version of one of the actively developed sim platforms. Many of us are hoping that the new MSFS will remedy the huge need for separate mods for basic realism. Better to suffer through XP11 as you already have it, than to have to suffer through XP11 AND FSX-SE.
April 29, 20206 yr Although FSX does have a default ATC which does tell you where to taxi at an airport, despite it's shortcomings,if that's what you mean? I have yet to install Radar Contact for FSX which I believe is an excellent FREEware add-on to replace the stock ATC. However, it's a separate add-on with a separate install as you point out.. July 20, 20205 yr In my opinion FSX is the most beginner friendly with lessons for five different certifications and some beginner's missions are tutorials as well. X-Plane 11 has fewer flying lessons and I think they are geared for brand new flyers only. P3D does not have lessons or missions. July 20, 20205 yr Also X-Plane has a bias toward GA planes. Nothing wrong with that, just that the designer likes flying GA. P3D was developed as a training tool not for the entertainment industry..IMHO the people using it in a professional capacity have no need of missions and tutorials present in other sims, thus they aren't included.
