October 19, 200619 yr Greetings fellow simmers,I just installed FSX and the FPS are not encouraging yet. But, in my search for the problem I found Net 2.0 was looking for msvcr80.dll and it could not find it. I downloaded it from www.dll-files.com and installed it. The FPS went up about 7 FPS. Net 2.0 was part of the latest ATI drivers package I got from ATI.com. I found others via a Google search that were having the same problem. Apparently Microsoft didn't include the file with the Net 2.0 install package.Hope this helps someone else. "A good landing is one you can walk away from. October 19, 200619 yr Hi Bill Are you saying Net 2.0 was required for FSX or only for your ATI driver package? How did you determine that Net 2.0 was looking for msvcr80.dll? The reason I ask is that I can't install Net 2.0 and am using FSX with no appartent problem. I have been working with MS Support to try and get Net 2.0 installed but so far have not gotten it installed. I need Net 2.0 for some addons like the LOM and AI Installers. Thanks and best regards, Bob.
October 19, 200619 yr hey bill...this is interesting news. i too had to install the .net framework in order to get the latest catalyst drivers to work. i was not aware of the missing .dll file since everything seems to be working ok. FSX will run, but framerates are anywhere from 4 to 12 FPS.are you saying that you were you able to run FSX without this file? and that after installing it, your framerates increased? or was there an error that prevented you from running FSX at all? how were you able to determine the .net was searching for this file?i'm gonna have to give this a try when i get home. thanks again for the info!!!
October 19, 200619 yr Hi Bill. I went to that site. Down at the bottom there are some comments about this file. Someone named Martyn at MS said that the file should NOT be used as it is not an official MS file. It is a beta. He says he is on the team that created the file. The real files are in:C:WINDOWSWinSxSx86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.42_x-ww_0de06acdThe Noton error message in WinDoctor is wrong. There is a fix for this error at the Symantec site. I looked in WinSxs and found three dll files, one of which was the msvcr80.dll. It is a different version and size than the one you downloaded. It is 612Kb. and is Version 8.0.50727.42.I am really confused. I wonder if Norton is refusing to install Net 2.0 because of this error. Best regards, Bob.
October 19, 200619 yr Author My understanding is that .Net is not required for ATI drivers but it is for the corresponding Catylyst Control Panel or CCC (bloated software IMHO and many others). Most of us avoid the bloated CCC and .Net by using nice, small utility called ATITrayTools and just use the stand-alone driver.More information on this can be found here: http://forums.guru3d.com/forumdisplay.php?f=46and here: http://forums.guru3d.com/forumdisplay.php?f=33Download ATT here: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=733Corresponding tweakguide here: http://www.tweakguides.com/ATICAT_1.html Regards, KendallDell 8400 3.2 GHZ H.T.800 FSB/2MB L22 GB 533 DDR2X800XT 256MB/Catalyst driver - 6.9's6x Adaptive AA/16x HQ A/FIntegrated SoundDual Monitor: Dell 2405/1905CH Yoke/Pedals Regards, Kendall 7800X3D/G.B. October 19, 200619 yr how would one get rid of CCC and does ATI Tray Tools allow you to do everything plus some that CCC did?where do you get drivers without getting the CCC?
October 19, 200619 yr Thanks Bob,I think I will remove the file. "A good landing is one you can walk away from. An excellent landing is one you can taxi away from." Bill in Colorado: Retired Comm: ASEL/AMEL/Instrument CFI: ASEL/AMEL/Instrument
October 19, 200619 yr When you install the drivers, a screen appears and asks if you want to do a custom install or the regular install. Pick the custom install and deselect the CCC option. You would then reselect your regular drivers. The drivers will be installed without the CCC. Then just download ATI Tray Tools from Guru3D or google it and install the application. It has a very small footprint and doesn't even need to be running once the options have been set.Jim Karn
October 19, 200619 yr Author >how would one get rid of CCC and does ATI Tray Tools allow>you to do everything plus some that CCC did?>>where do you get drivers without getting the CCC?AtiTray tools does everything CCC does and more - it's excellent IMHO, check it out. Just uninstall CCC via add/remove or use Ati's software removal tool. Also, it's highly recommended to use Driver Cleaner when changing drivers (see hardware forum for info). You can download the standalone drivers right from Ati's site. Simply select display driver only. You will also need to download and install the WDM driver, should you have a card that supports VIVO.Good Luck!Regards, KendallDell 8400 3.2 GHZ H.T.800 FSB/2MB L22 GB 533 DDR2X800XT 256MB/Catalyst driver - 6.9's6x Adaptive AA/16x HQ A/FIntegrated SoundDual Monitor: Dell 2405/1905CH Yoke/Pedals Regards, Kendall 7800X3D/G.B.
