Athens to Karachi - getting there Part 2

Featured Replies

At a suggestion by a fellow AVSIM member about not flying over Iran or Iraq if I could help it, (countries to the east of Iran would be far less friendly to a low flying, noisy, slow twin) I arrived at the torturous flightplan shadowing the Iranian border with Iraq to get us to Kuwait. From then on it would be a long range flight over water Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Oman & the Arabian Sea to get to Karachi..

Perhaps I should have asked for some fighter escort?  Nope that'd create a bigger international incident (and I'd hate for Turkey to lose any of their F-4E Terminators - https://militarywatchmagazine.com/article/terminator-2020-why-the-f-4-phantom-is-still-turkey-s-fastest-highest-flying-and-most-heavily-armed-fighter-jet )

Settling in for an interesting cruise across some mountainous terrain.

Things are beginning to tighten up.. you can also see the string of waypoints on the KLN90B which tracks the border..

I need to intervene with a bit of terrain avoidance..!

We'll soon be on a right downwind approach to OKBK RWY33R - ATC originally wanted to give me a water runway.. Do they not know that Land Rovers, flying or otherwise are not watertight??

Almost a parallel landing, although the plane destined for 33L will be on the ramp way before I will! You can just see it (I hope) above the top left corner of the instrument coaming/glareshield.

Nicely lined up..

Touchdown. Hope there's enough fumes in the tanks to allow the Lycomings to take me to parking.

Rob, well I never! 😎

Thank you for the info. I will however see what freeware options are available to me at first, so apologies if OPKC doesn't look that good when I post up the next leg (I think the Islander won't quite make it in one hop...😲 I may have to obtain a portable fuel bladder...)

+++1.

I have a 94-year old friend, a US citizen living in Ontario, an ex-VP of AIG(those with Man Utd connections will know)whose daughters were born in Karachi,------ where I once visited on B+I steamer ship, way back in the 50s when air travel was only a millionaire's playground,----- who because of their schoolmates relationship with the late Benazir Bhutto, ex-PM and ex-PM's daughter, are now banned from visiting India.

May get that OPKC scenery as long as it's not an arm 'n a leg🤣

Mark:

Missed this post, somehow, about your "Epic" journey....! There may not be the cheering crowd, for you, as had witnessed the progress of "Captains W. J. (Bill) Bright and F. L. (Frank) Buxton"....🙂....but, there are, at least, a couple, here...

With your permission (and, I see, you're still <20 screenshots, here), I show, below, your (impressive) progress, as per the records, being tracked, at Gatwick airport (Race Headquarters)...🙂...And, SimBrief tells me, you've already covered (nearly) 2,800 nautical miles in the air, so far....

So, keep on...! BTW, remember to call ahead to (Karachi) Pakistan, to ensure, you'll have a friendly hand to be ready with your re-fueling need, but, I don't know, about the guarantee, for a "brew" there,...unless it's just English Tea...!

And, of course, excellent images here of this (desolate) segment of the trip...gives a "tiny" feel for the "real" thing...!! Thanks for posting...!
