CTD on Short Flight RSW to FLL

Featured Replies

I just purchased the LatinVFR KFLL since it was on sale and looks great. I installed P3dv5 on my new PC which has 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9700K & GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER.  I did a short flight from KRSW to KFLL in the Aerosoft A320 and of course, about 3 miles from touchdown I got the "Graphics Card has run out of memory." I hope this gets fixed in the next update because this seems crazy. Flying 90 miles in the day time I would not expect a CTD. Crossing my fingers that the Hotfix2 comes out soon.

Cheers, Pete

the hotfix is not going to fix that, it has been explained many times.

If you reach the VRAM budget of your 2080 (7gb if I am not wrong) you will get that pop up message.

KFLL from LatinVFR has PBR and 4k textures , it is one the most detailed sceneries in P3D but it has a cost, VRAM usage is really high. I know thw developer is working on their airports to give us “lite” versions to avoid these CTD.

But again, it is DX12 new normal

Okay, I see, I guess I will hold out for the lite version because it is crazy with even a pretty good rig you can't run this scenery very well. These are the things that make me wonder if I should have just stayed with P3dv4.

What about your settings in P3d?

I've found with LatinVFR KMIA you can get a lockup/CTD at the *gate* during preflighting if you want to, with the Maddog and an 11gb card and 2048 textures and the 19xx Win10 build.  Ask me how I know.  :)

For now, at LatinVFR airports I'd suggest a P3D settings profile using 1024 textures, EA off.

And I will say that you'd like to think that the hotfix should implement some routines which dynamically drop resolution or alter other settings when certain thresholds are crossed, which may at least avoid a complete crash of the system.  A few other DX12 titles have done this, as mentioned in another recent thread.  I cannot foresee LM  allowing the current situation to continue.  I expect as EA emerges from beta, that will similarly make v5 more stable.

I am using recommended settings I found on Avsim a while back for v4. Perhaps they are too high? I would be interested to see recommended settings. I don't think they are unreasonable but certainly the are on the higher end.

Yes correct, in v5 you don’t necessarily need to crank up the settings to get great visuals.

there is another topic here that rob has posted a few screenshots of settings that has an effect on vram.

Thanks, I will give the 1024 textures a shot as I am currently using 2048. Assuming EAi is enhanced atmospherics I already have these unchecked.

Thanks, you don't happen to have a link to that topic do you?

By the way, is there a problem with Aerosoft PANC or Alaska in general? I installed PANC today and have tried about 7 times to start a flight there, and the sim crashes every time at about 82%. I have not successfully opened this airport yet.

I just repeated the exact flight from earlier and it went successfully. I change the textures to 1024. Using shift + Z the highest the GPU Memory went was 5.3 out of 6.6 and that was at the gate. Stayed at 5.1 during landing. Thanks to all of you for your input!

Then those scenery publishers must be absolutely and reasonably clear about realistic minimum system requirements.  To the extent of posting:

to potential purchasers....

I love the older LVFR sceneries for the Caribbean areas.  But I purchased their KBWI for FSX and cannot even fly near it without OOM's.  My system specs are in my footer, and transitioning from a 4 GB card to an 8 GB video card has made no difference.  I know, I am using FSX.  And please do not ask me if I have deselected the option LVFR KBWI option for surrounding hi res scenery.  Of course I have.  At one point I contacted them to make sure I was not mistakenly trying to use the P3D version of KBWI.  Found out I was not.  On the other hand I seem to be able to use their KSAN scenery without issue.

When I look at Sunskyjet's KPHL I see even better rendition and detail, and I have never even experienced a stutter there.

I simply cant figure out why i get OOM on 1 hour flight between EKCH-EDDF in the MaddogX 4K/1024 textures normal settings and VRAM about 6GB/10.1GB. FTXOPENLCEU+FTX Germany

Maybe its related to something else ? My C SSD drive has 560GB left and swapfile is controlled by W10 2004.

My P3dv5 drive on the other hand only has 150GB left (i have 1TB SSD which samsung has limited to 838GB for safety reasons)

Stock P3d.cfg

Update: i just noticed that my swapfile on C drive was set to "manual" 3072MB .

Not sure if i made that mistake some time around , but would you recommend letting windows controlling it ?
