Hey all,

i would like to hugely upgrade my *very old*  PC.
I am using P3D at the moment, but its kinda safe that im going to switch to MSFS once its out.

I am thinking about this hardware components:

CPU: i7-10700k or i7-9700k (not 100% sure yet)
Power Supplies: bequiet! Straight Power 11 650W ATX 2.4
Mainboard: MSI MPG Z490 Gaming Plus (not 100% sure, depends also on the CPU)
CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4
Memory: 2x Corsair Vengeance LPX black 16GB, DDR4-3200, CL16-18-18-36
Graphic Card: I still got a 1070 and would like to wait with a new buy of a card until the 3000er series is out
SSD: Samsung 970 EVO 500GB, M.2 (got another 500GB SSD already)
Case: I still got an Fractal Design R4 still looking very good, so im not sure here aswell

What do you guys think about this setup?
Is it going to work out or does something not fit into it?

Thank you in advance!

Greetings,
Thies

It all looks pretty good!  Since you'll be buying a motherboard no matter which generation of CPU you choose, I'd recommend going with the 10700K build.  Newer CPU and overclocks very well.  Your Fractal Design case should work fine but you should probably check its specs to make sure it can handle the Dark Rock 4's 160mm height.  Good idea to wait for the 3000 Nvidia GPU's.

Good luck with your build and have fun!

Thank you mate!
There is enough space for the Dark Rock Pro 4.

Additional question:

Do you think a 650W power supplier is enough for that system?
I did some tests on different website and all expect one told me its enough.

Thanks!

I use Seasonic's Power Calculator... and chose the variables of: 10700K overclocked to 5.0Ghz @ 1.35v, your 1070, the 970 EVO 500GB + your current SSD, and four 120mm case fans in your R4 for a Load Wattage of 504 and Recommended Wattage of 554.  So yeah, you should be fine... at least until you upgrade to that 3000 series GPU.

Well, i am planning to uprgrade.
Do you think it needs much more power than the 2000 series?

Thank you!

I think you may find the power requirements for the 3000 series about the same as the 2000 series, don`t confuse more performance with more power the industry is moving to better efficiency less power needed.

I think it's a crapshoot at best.  While I agree with @G-RFRY about efficiency, some of the tech rumors on the new Nvidia cards suggest a very big increase in TDP and needed power.  However a conflicting tech insider blog suggests it will be similar power requirements to the 2080ti.  The answer at this point is nobody knows for sure.  I currently have a 1080ti on a 750W power supply.  If the rumored 3090 is a thing, I too may be looking at a bigger power supply.  But I'm holding short for now.

So, would you suggest me to go with 750w instead of 650w? I am not going to get the 3090 but aiming for the 3070 or 3080.
Thank you!

considering I don't know the specs it's really hard for me to make that call right now.  I'd go with a 750 over a 650 if you must buy right now

Same...I'd just get the 750.

Thanks guys!

Just another quick question maybe affecting the mainboard decision:
Can someone explain what the difference is between the:
MSI MPG Z490 Gaming Plus and the  AsRock Z490 Extreme

except for the price.
