October 22, 200619 yr I've been messing around with the G1000 a little bit. I can not find any autopilot features. I'm trying to set a heading hold and a altitude hold. I can't find anyway to do this. Any help for this rookie? Bob
October 22, 200619 yr The G1000 (both real world and FSX) does not have an autopilot. We've included a Bendix King A/P in our aircraft. (FWIW, Garmin recently annouced an intergrated a/p in an upcoming version of the G1000.)
October 22, 200619 yr Thanks for the quick reply. I do see the Bendix King A/P in the Cessna C172 but not in the Beech Baron58. I'm i missing it or is there not one in the Beech? thanks again, Bob
October 22, 200619 yr O.K I found it. I was right clicking to get that menu. Its not in there you have to go into the menu at the top and choose radio. No sim icon either, Bob
October 22, 200619 yr Although the G1000 doesn't have an AP, you really need it in order for the AP to work properly! The AP can be found under Shift-2 (in the VC of the Baron 58 anyway). When you've got it up and running you can use the HDG and ALT buttons on the left of the G1000 to set the HDG and ALT (ALT can also be set on the AP itself): you will see the information on the G1000 will match the info on the AP: they are linked. To change between HDG and NAV mode you will have to click on the popup-window of the AP: there is no other way because the AP is not on the VC itself (I wonder why...). When you are in NAV mode you can switch between its sources (NAV 1, NAV 2, GPS, etc.) by using the CDI-key on the GPS. And to use an ILS you will need to press the APR key on the AP while tuning in the right frequency on the G1000. So... you really do need the G1000 to make full use of the AP! And vice versa.@archtx The G1000 has the radio's built in, so there is no seperate radio panel.BTW I quit like the G1000! Also the default GPS is quit nice. It's a big improvement on the FS9 and older versions! I'm used to the Reality XP GNS430 and I have to say the FS X GPS has all the functions I use the most, and even more. (Although not enough to make me not long for an FS X version of the GNS 430 ;) But considering the price of the RXP GNS430 itself and the price of FS X, the FS X GPS can't be beat, of course! ;))
October 22, 200619 yr P.S. You can also switch between NAV and GPS as a source for the AP on the Shift-7 panel (lights, starters, etc. in the Baron).I've done another flight with it now, during the night, using ATC, and it was GREAT fun (although it took some time to get used to all the softkey-possibillities ;): this thing is quit deep!). Checked out almost all screens on the G1000 and searched all kinds of info: nice! I have to say I'm beginning to forget about the GNS430... ;)Two questions:1. Is there no ETA on the G1000? I can only see the ETE.2. When I activated an approach using the G1000 I had to manually look for the ILS freq on the WPT pages AND I had to manually enter in the G1000's NAV 1. Am I overlooking something? Or is this just the way the G1000 works? In the GNS430, when you activated an approach (or even loaded it) the ILS freq was automatically entered in the NAV 1 standby! Very handy. (Looking it up took some time now, but after finding the relevant softkeys that is quit easy after all.) Even if this is not possible in the G1000, is it then possible to search for the freq on the WPT page, highlight it with the cursor and then press ENT (or something) to easily transfer it to the NAV 1? Or do I indeed have to enter that manually?BTW QUit nice that you can type airport-ID's and so on as soon as you've enabled the cursor: sure beats clicking the FMS buttons a thousand times! ;)As said: I'm beginning to love the G1000 more and more (even after just two flights)! Come to think of it (and comparing it with payware add-ons): the G1000 and the Ultralight, which I love, are worth the purchaseprice of FS X alone! I think people often forget what they get when they buy FS compared to what they get when they buy add-ons... I know for instance the Dreamfleet Baron looks a lot better than the FS X version, but considering the prices you really can't compare them, nor ANY OTHER add-on, if you ask me! Keep that in mind when you compare FS X stuff to add-ons!!!

Perhaps having a fresh look at the G500 in a new sim has allowed you to spend more time exploring what the default G500 actually CAN do... :-lol Fr. You gotta be kidding me! But I'm sure you're not!>Perhaps having a fresh look at the G500 in a new sim has>allowed you to spend more time exploring what the default G500>actually CAN do... :-lol Well, that is INDEED the case, I guess! I never ever gave the FS9 GPS a fair chance, apparently... So that's what 'hear say' can result in: bad judgement! Shame on me. (Things like this must be very frustrating for devs...!) I've spend a lot of time with the GNS430 (in the DF A36) and due to that (and thanks to all I've learned using it) I finally approached the FS GPS as I should... If the GNS430 had worked in FS X right now I'd probably would still say the same stupid things about the FS GPS...There's a lesson to be learned here, folks! Thanks for this eyeopener, Bill! ;)

October 22, 200619 yr But the FS X version doesn't. ;)As the documentation says: 'The G1000 in Flight Simulator doesn't model all of the G1000's features (and new features are being added all the time). It does however model most of what a typical private pilot would use on a typical VFR or IFR flight (using an early model G1000).'
October 22, 200619 yr >J van E thanks for the info, that helps alot,You're welcome. ;)BTW I just downloaded the official G1000 manual from www.garmin.com (the Baron 58 version) and noticed the real right display has all the autopilotbuttons one could need... Well, maybe something for a patch/upgrade...? ;) (I know, not a chance... But maybe some other company is working on it right now...?)
