ROFL!That's right, why do you frequent these forums staffan if you don't have any intent of owning FSX. Just go and annoy people who frequent the FS9 forums instead.James

Hi there Geoff I as well would like to see what Staffan believes are cartoon like you and others I too have my gripes about FSx but to say that it looks like a cartoon is simply not true. Simply take a flight in the Beaver to see what I am talking about. As for the water I think that once the truly creative people in this community get our collective hands and minds around the tools in the SDK we will see a great improvement in regards to things like the water. I my self am exploring the new modeling tools for Max8 that are part of the SDK. I believe the main "problem" with the water is that the specular hi-light of the water's base shader simply needs to be adjusted (I.E. a "tighter" specular hi-light) and I hope that we could either create another water surface with the new tools or better yet simply adjust the one all ready in the sim. I have worked with Maya unlimited's fluid effects for seveal years and can tell you that one can indeed create great looking water with today's tools. Also we in the "add-on" community now have the ability to work with the weather engine through the "hooks" in the SDKand even to get our hands on the actual files used to create the clouds in FSx and play around with them as well, (with the "cloud" tools that are part of the tools set in the Modeling SDK). So people rather than simply gripe about what's wrong give the community the time it needs to work with the tools the we now have from the team at ACES and I think we will all be enjoying the possabilties that the above tools will allow the community to add to the sim. It does looks cartoonish imo, it's a subjective judgement and don't expect everyone to agree. Bright unrealistic colours in many situations but maybe some of you have some degree of colour blindness? FS9 looked a little this way too, but third party texture artists such as Peter Wilding and Voz did a great job of upping the look toward realism. No doubt they will be working on a similar thing for FSX and then I might really take a look at this new incarnation.

Geofa's screenshots confirm it. The colours are indeed over saturated and cartoonish looking, the mountains look like a big milkshake.

Thanks for informing me that FSX is cartoonish. There was me thinking FSX is stunningly beautiful and capable of doing things FS9 can only dream of. In my ignorance I thought that FSX's one meter ground textures made FS9 almost look silly in comparison with its low resolution, leopard-spot textures. And so on....Thanks for letting me see the light!Best regards, Chris

Double post

As many of you may know, is that I am a 2D panel full system>80% airliner simmer, 20% businessjet simmer and 0% GA simmer.>And I have not yet found even one single post from a happy>FL370 guy. It seams that MS have neglected us FL370 guys big>time. That is why I strongly feel that FS9 have much more to>offer....namely all wonderful aircraft addons, which I can fly>without any single stutter in FS9.>>I can not even think about how all my favourite addon planes>would perform in FSX.>>So, as long as the focus is on the GA in FSX,....why would I>even considder getting it?You should try the approch into Singapore in monsoon mission, and then tell me this is not a good platform for the heay iron. Oh, I forgot . . . you do not own the sim.I am sure Bill Gates has come out of retirement and is holding meetings in redmond as we speak over your decision not to buy FSX. Here is a thought, and I mean it with all respect, instead of posting here, why not go fly some FS9?

I have two monitors but these screen shots are while only using one. Even when using two the relationship remains the same. FS9 reports an FPS real close to the real one and FSX does not.Bruce
