C152 gauging the quality of the flight model

Featured Replies

If I see some problem in a flight sim, my first thought isn't to complain about it, my first thought is, "Can I fix this?"  If I can't, then I'll complain.

Every point you brought up, you can fix.  The files are open.  Modifying them changes the behavior.

I've had my fingers in the files of every aircraft I fly in FSX and P3D, even the ones from A2A, although those take the least modification. 🙂

I suspect I'll be doing some work on MSFS as well.  I don't mind.  Or I might leave them the way they are as I find them pleasant to fly.

This seems like an awfully long time. I know software deadlines can slip, but do you have any idea when they'll be finished? 🤣

Not quite with you chock.

I dont know what airplane this is but the falling leaf stall looks pretty similar to ehat we saw in Q8’s video?

That looks like a Diamond DA20/50 or Katana. Diamond aircraft are specifically designed to as far as possible prevent deep stalls. But here you do see roll instability and there is (eventually) a nose drop. It is a very differently designed aircraft from the C150/152/172 and nearly all other GA singles.

Please do elaborate on that! Most airplanes must comply  with certain design standard. If  they don't, they get experimental certificate. So all Diamonds and Cessnas you mentioned must be compliant with FAR23 (in US). Again I don't know what "deep stall" means, nearly all airplanes I have flown design to stall at the root of the wing per design requirement! Most deep stalls I've experience were pilot induced! LOL

"The wings have washout, which causes the wing roots to stall in advance of the wingtips, which has the effect of the ailerons being fully effective well after the onset of a primary stall condition.[6] Other unfavourable flight conditions are often guarded against, such as a wing drop, which may be produced only as a consequence of prolonged and excessive elevator application during a steep climbing turn, and can be rectified by the relaxation of back pressure"

From Wiki, and I assume this was taken from Diamond's own publicity on the Katana (DA20). It still complies with FAR23.

I'm guessing that as a result of this, a stall might be blander than expected in other aircraft. I agree "deep stall" is not precise enough. I meant a distinct drop of the nose, rather than a "mush" stall.
