>What card did you have before the 7600GT, and what difference>did you feel it made to fsx?I had a Radeon 9800 XT on my AMD 3200+. When I run Aqua3d, I get a score of 43,000. When I run Aqua3d on my E6300 OC'd to 2.45 ghz with a 7600 GT PCIE, I get a score 90,000. It is very smooth in Aqua3D.I never flew FSX on my AMD box, so I cannot comment.

I'm in the same boat as the original poster. My computer is 2 years old and I'm stuck with AGP but I don't want to replace it until Vista/DX10 are available. I have a P4 2.6 with 1 gb of RAM and had previously upgraded an FX5600 video card to a 128 mb 6600GT. To run FSX in the meantime, I've added another 1 gb of RAM and upgraded the video card to a 256 mb 7600GT. I'm actually pretty pleased with the way FSX is running. I've done most of the tweaks but have not replaced any textures with smaller ones yet.Anyway, the 7600GT cards are a lot of bang for the buck, and might get you by until you're ready to go for a new computer.Jim

Early Novemeber and the G80 is launched and available for DX10, chips are already running on short supply do to all Nvidia partners buying all available, the card is a monster!the GTX/G80 runs at 575MHz core, 768MB of 900MHz GDDR3 memory, a 384-bit memory bus = 86GB/s memory bandwidth.>>> 128 <<<< unified shaders at 1350MHz and a 38.4 billion pixels per second theoretical fill rate. The GTS version features a "mere" 500MHz G80 core, 640MB of memory, 320-bit memory bus, for 64GB/s memory bandwidth, and 96 unified shaders, clocked at 1200MHz. Both cards are SLI capable.Wattage is not a "big" problem, if you can run a G71 core than you can run these.FSX is to be ported to DX10, Aces has already stated this.no AGP version of this card, but thats what they said about the G71 (7900 GT, not the broken GS AGP cards)and I am running that on my AGP rig right now.If you want one of the new G80, be preparied to snach quickly as they will go fast, but they will cost $5-600 and more depending on demand.

Then why is a DX10 patch for FSX is planned upon release of Vista? Surely you don't think all older software need patch to run on Vista. Right? The patch is to enable the emulation.

the higher one (7800 GS?) supposedly doesn't offer much better performance anyway?

Correction, the patch is to add the code to use the new interfaces.I dont know what you mean by emulation. Currently there is no DX10 code in the RTM bits. So the patch is to add the support. There is no "emulation".

One thing to remember when changing from an APG system to a PCI is that almost all new PCI motherboards use DDR2 Ram. So be prerpared to shell out for new ram.Dave FisherCYYZP4 Prescott 3.2e 478p 800mhz 1mg CPUP4P800SE Asus Motherboard2.5 gig PC3200 DDR RAM 400MHZNvidia 7600GT/512Maxtor 80 Gig ATA 133 HD x2WDC WD800 80 Gig HDhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpg
