That is beyond frustrating!  I don't think I have any helpful insight.  Were you able to figure out your steam install directory issue?  Perhaps it has something to do with that?  I'm guessing you don't want to try a reinstall?

What if you log out of Steam, reboot and re-login.

One other simple thing I can think of...is that some folks like to leave their pc's running 24/7. I doubt that Rob would do this but if that's the case then perhaps a simple reboot will clear the issue.

What's the size of your page file? Try setting it to the size of your physical RAM and try it then. I was having the same crash-on-load issue and that fixed it for me.

Had similar problems with my first attempt in Alpha, plus very low frame rates 2-10 FPS if it ever started.

In my case even though Win 10 said Up to date, I had to click on check for updates more than 3-4 times, and every time it installed something. The last one fixed my problem It was and Intel Graphics Driver Update. Don't know why or how that update fixed my problems as I don't use the integrated graphics but an RTX2070S.

I had tried everything. (nvidia drivers, audio drivers, mouse & keyboard only, reinstall, chkdsk, cleanup, fsc /scannow, and even dism after a complete backup)

Hope that help.
